From where? If you go to Liverpool Street you can get a train early enough.

You are assuming he can afford it. If you want to you can make it. My wife did it by going to Luton Airport one evening, missing her Stansted flight (as she was in the wrong airport), booking an early morning flight and taking the coach from Luton to Stansted. Very relaxing way of doing things.

Get a bus (or cab) to Victoria Coach Station and then get the National Express Coach to Stansted - they go every 15 minutes or so! I have a colleague who does this quite often (and does not trust the train due to previous experiences of cancellations!)
