Pretty much the opposite of my understanding... a gastro-pub primarily exists for its food, has a dining area, often accepts table reservations, but the ambience/decor is still pub-style and you can go in just for a drink if you want. By your definition, Wetherspoons would be a gastro pub.

The owner of Wetherspoons recently claimed 50% of their turnover now comes from non alcohol sales,so are they still a pub. Are we entering a world where The Fox on the Hill is a restaurant and the Ledbury a pub

Dear Hipster dads

Endless discussion of pubs/pub life on forums is outdated macho toss - like going to football ( whcih you rarely ever do).Its all bluster, jizm and toss. the chances are, very few of youse actually spend that much time in a pub to warrant a thread on it. You are at home with the kids, being a decent stand up father and working with your partner in bringing up the family and making ends meet. You do not hang around in pubs any longer. You probabaly never really did if you were honest with yourself. Dont be afraid to admit this,there is no shame in no going to shitty pubs.

If a thirty-something with an unironed work shirt and a slight pot belly, who shaves every three days and gets a hair cut every three months, and whose taste in most things are out of date by around twenty years, qualifies as a hipster... then yes, guilty as charged.

They did (Draft House) and they were luverly - and a pickled egg dropped into a bag of crisps is surely the definition of gastro?
