Recommendations of dog breeder

We want to get a dog and we are total newbies. Poodle or a poodle-cross is our preference. Does anyone out there have any recommendations of a good breeder?

Hi, we contacted the Kennel Club of Great Britain and they provided us with a list of approved breeders. That way you can be sure you are not using a puppy farm, that the lineage is correct (i.e. that brothers and sisters are not being mated etc). They have lots of good tips on their web site and are very helpful

Thank you scotslass - yes I am planning to do that eventually. But to start with, I wondered if anyone had any personal recommendations?

Just to be clear, I have already done a lot of research on paper/internet. What I was hoping for was details of a good breeder that someone could recommend. Sorry for any confusion.

What about cross-breed dogs from animal rescue shelters? They need home and love, too. I always preferred cross-breeders. Supposedly, they are more disease resistant.

I echo what Chloe writes above, Battersea Dogs Home, Foal Farm both have lots of dogs all various breeds and ages looking for a forever home. Perhaps you could start your search there?
