Due to this topic being excessively long, a new 2024 "New Shops in Dulwich / Peckham" has been opened here. Please continue the discussion there.

We seem to have two new veggie (sorry, "plant based") restaurants almost next door to each other in Peckham Rye. "Omni" at the old "2 girls" site, and "En Root" at the old "One and All" site.

And on the same stretch, at the old Pedlar site, "Good Neighbour". Which seems kind of similar to its predecessor.

It was open last week. What makes you think it's closed?

Some of the best ice cream around. In fact, I can't think of anywhere better.

Oh that's great news - I'll wander down that way for a visit. I drove past it several times in the middle of the day & it was always closed, which is why I thought it might have shut down.

Opens from midday - something I discovered when I popped down to Evans Cycles on a hot day last week and thinking that an ice cream on the green would be lovely while I was out and about. Sadly, it was only 10.30am...

Couple of places near East Dulwich station that opened quite recently. They need our support :)

- Ciao at grove cafe: opened a few months ago as an Italian cafe/restaurant. The place doesn?t look very different to previous cafe but it?s changed hands recently. The food is excellent and they?ve started doing evening meals too. Fresh pasta, homemade pizza, great produce, lovely owners. Fabio and Lewis are brilliant people.

- Marvellous Greens and Beans: excellent produce, also lovely owners and they deliver fruit/veg boxes too.

It's not a shop and it's not Dulwich or Peckham but...the kids playpark in Brockwell Park now has a little kiosk in it. It's serving coffees, teas, juice etc and the food is thankfully of the snack bar variety (bacon rolls, egg and chips etc for ?3-6) rather the Colicci Dulwich Park offering (hummus and guacamole skewer, ?13.50).

    • I can't see it will ever be finally resolved, unfortunately. Although the local problems were made much worse due to the move of the delivery office to Peckham, Royal Mail has had issues ever since it was privatised. Whenever the local MP gets involved, things get a bit better temporarily, then they just deteriorate again. I hope I'm wrong, but there are similar postal delivery issues all over the country. I think there are currently discussions ongoing to change the delivery requirements which Royal Mail is supposed to adhere to for first and second class post. Silly question, but are you actually expecting letters? I haven't had any post for ages either, but I'm not expecting any! Much stuff these days is done by email or on apps. The East Dulwich delivery office is in Peckham, not West Dulwich?
    • Hi, over the last few years, I have had a problems with my joint freeholder. For the last 15 years there has been roof leaks and we had some repairs done around 2016 but I got another leak a few years ago. Instead of ensuring the roof is watertight, the joint freeholder is trying to force me to pay for non-essential work in hallway (tiling, new door and repainting) which will come to approximately £3K. We keep going around in circles and I want to suggest a mediator again (ideally with a property solicitor). Key reason is joint freeholder is also solicitor, so needs to be someone who has expertise of leases. I have proposed a managing agent for maintenance for the building or a declaration of trust but they wont agree, so we are unable to move forward. We are just two flats in one house and trust has completely broken down. I think they are trying to make life so difficult that I sell, so they can do an extension. I love my flat but I am not in a situation where I can move. Can anyone suggest a mediator that can help us find some common ground? Any advice welcome and DM if you prefer.
    • This problem has been going on since before Covid due to the closure of the Dulwich sorting office. The local MP Ellie Reeves is aware and has written to the Post Office. They give the same generic responses about 'temporary' staffing issues. Would encourage people to email Ellie Reeves. It's about time this was finally resolved!
    • Sorry to hear you are having issues. Fwiw, we received a regular letter this week. Maybe it's worth asking at the Dulwich delivery office (it's in West Dulwich, though. Their phone number is 03457740740) to see if there are aware of any issues in your particular area?  I've seen cases in the past were the a particular postie was sick and they didn't cover for them, they just let everything accumulate for a couple of days until the person was back.
