Due to this topic being excessively long, a new 2024 "New Shops in Dulwich / Peckham" has been opened here. Please continue the discussion there.

I don't see how a bakery can be bourgeois...Surely these days we're a far more class-less society.

As to whether Soderberg is bourgeois - I refer to the Macmillan definition cited above of "typical of middle class people and their attitudes". Soderberg is just another arse-achingly boring coffee shop trading on the prejudices and aspirations of its milquetoast middle class punters (of which I would probably be one if I could tolerate their habit of adding cinnamon to everything). But what are you gonna do? People love caffeine and sugar presented a certain way...

  • Haha 1

Looks like a bakery/ brunch / pizza place (for a change… :) )

What location is it? They also have a couple of places in Edinburgh. Wish Ole & Steen would have replaced Brickhouse instead of Gail’s arriving.

I see the 500 degrees pizza place is being replaced by....... a pizza place

Is that the place thats opened by the bus stop next door to yard sale Pizza?

It looked totally deserted the other day and it did make me question who in their right mind would open a new pizza/italian place near so many established Pizza/Italian places.

It just looked so uninviting and..sad really

The old SE Cakery site on Upland Road is set to become an independent bakery, with a focus on UK sourced ingredients and sustainable farming practices.

They're aiming to open in March.

Anyone know anything about this Joseph's Fish and Chips opening up by Dulwich Library in the old framer's shop?

On looking at their website it seems interesting, they have had some funding to open 4 shops/restaurants up in 2023 in Dulwich, Tower Bridge, Chiswick and Putney. But I can't find anything else about it.

Opening four shops in different locations in six months is quite an undertaking, even more so in the current economic climate, can only hope it works out for them and a chippy in that part of Lordship Lane has to be a welcome addition??

Ole & Steen seem to be opening up all over London. Their coffee is a bit underwhelming in my opinion

Il Sovrano cafe/deli has opened up in the old Barclays Bank site on South Croxted Rd, opposite Tesco Metro and next to Elderflower food shop. Yes, I know it's West Dulwich.

It's a very nice, breezy space, with deli stuff at the front and a coffee bar, and then spacious seating at the back. Coffee is good. Food seems hyper-authentic Italian. Staff are friendly and attentive to a fault...

Meanwhile, Walter's opposite has closed temporarily - they were burgled with equipment stolen. There was also a burglary at the hairdressers a few doors down. :(

We’ve been to Due Fratelli (replaced 500 Degrees pizza place) on Lordship Lane a few times now.

They have pizza and a few other dishes. We think pizza is their best. No stuffed crusts or Hawaiian just good pizza - the original fast food. They have a wood fired oven and pizzas come out in no time.

Pizzas range from £6.95 to £12.95.

We’ll go back, none of the other pizzas we’ve had on Lordship Lane are as good.

Nice to hear someone give them a plug I was waiting for the bus outside this afternoon and once again I felt a little sad for the owners, Pizza oven blazing away in the background chef stood looking bored on phone, waitress stood gazing out the door, tables laid with wine glasses etc and not a soul inside.

We dont eat Pizza or I'd give them a try

    • I’d also recommend Paul for electrical work. He came round the other week to help us out with a handful of jobs (installing an SPD, new light fittings, installing a dimmer switch, a bathroom fan). His quote was cheaper than what I got from others, he turned up on time and he got the job done quickly.
    • We’d like to add our recommendation for Lukasz and team at L&L Building & Maintenance.  Lukasz has recently installed a roof terrace for us, and we’ve found him a pleasure to work with from start to finish. We contacted about a dozen recommended builders and found his quote very competitive. During the build his team delivered quality work, they were no hassle in the house at all and they kept the place tidy every day. The terrace looks great, and we’re very happy customers. What stood out in particular was Lukasz’s responsiveness, right from discussing quotes to follow-up during the build. Lukasz often checked in and was always available when we needed him.  We’ll definitely contact Lukasz again for future building work and we’d happily recommend him to others looking for a reliable builder.   Lukasz Kugaczewski L&L Building & Maintenance 07926651960 [email protected] www.landl-build.com
    • Yes, I did mention the train, which I now get from East Dulwich to Guys instead of the 40. Depends where in East Dulwich you are starting from which route is easiest! I think it is probably lack of staff rather than lack of hospitals which is the problem?
    • What can be done? How about reporting it to the police?
