Due to this topic being excessively long, a new 2024 "New Shops in Dulwich / Peckham" has been opened here. Please continue the discussion there.

Yet there is only one coffee shop in the small Sainsbury's end of Lordship Lane and that mainly does food and other things. Yet there is going to be another Chippy, despite there being Sema's, Emily's Place and Sea Master already pretty close by.

tbf, those chippies are all either awful or 15 mins' walk away.

Puff Pizza on Choumert Road, gone in a puff?

That’s a pity for those who worked there.

Please don’t gentrify my area - because ugly scrawling on shutters always helps bring in jobs and investment… Southwark really needs to blitz-clean all the sullied shop fronts and make landlords accountable for the mess they can leave behind when they and their tenants shut up shop for the day.

Agreed! Bizarre graffiti anyway, because a fast food place selling fried pizza seems an odd cause for anyone’s outrage!

Incidentally 081 Pizza have just this weekend opened a restaurant at 66 Rye Lane. They started off with a hatch in the Bussey Building, and now also have two concessions north of the river. Very good going for the short time they’ve been in business!

There was a really good Afghan takeaway and restaurant at 215-217 Rye Lane called Taste of Afghan. Walking past it recently I was worried it had closed down. But asking around I gather they are soon reopening just in 217 Rye Lane. Looks like a new bar is opening at 215, called “The Lane”.

So many Pizza places...yawn

Wish we had a really good exclusively Ramen place open around LL.

especially one with a good choice of veggie or vegan options.

Have you tried Tonkotsu in Peckham?

https://tonkotsu.co.uk/

Tonkotsu is a chain so I try to avoid them.

Rye Lane is also a bit for us to walk down to as we live FH end

Believe this is a branch of (or from the same people as) Black Salt in West London, which got a great review from Jay Rayner in the Observer last year:

Does anyone know what is going into that space on East Dulwich Road right next to the Goose Green playground? They are kitting it out and it's looking nice.

It used to be Aneto then a short-lived Brougham (sp?) after that...

The builders working there said it is going to be a bar and restaurant serving Indian food.

Hubby went to get fish and chips from Joseph's last Friday. Long queues outside - was told by someone in queue , that orders were taking an hour to process. Hubby went across road to Chinese instead. Will try again earlier in the week.

We usually drive down to Emily's in North Cross Road. Ahmed is very popular and has reasonable prices- good to chat and catch up with his family news whilst waiting for our order to cook.

The old plantshop next to william rose . Is going to be a charity shop

Which charity? I really miss Pearspring 😢

The Nunhead Gardener has a great shop within the new Elephant complex. I think it's larger than the Camberwell one.

Ah, that's a shame. A lot of charity shops already. I also miss Pearspring. Sorry it closed.

not a new shop opening but an established one closing.

I noticed that Luca's on Northcross road is closing down

there goes another independent trader.

Sad

Is it really? It always seems busy. That's incredibly sad, I love Luca's and they also bake amazing bread.

Yes I agree, it always seems busy and their food is great.

There's a sign in the window saying they're selling stuff off.

I guess its another victim of the rise in energy costs/produce/etc etc.

    • I went last week and would recommend. I was very happy to see pricing based on hair length and especially a fringe trim price. I live nearby and don’t need it fully styled / blown out after a cut (curly so usually prefer to do it myself) so I like that it is variable pricing in that way.
    • Memes top of lordship haircut shampoo blow dry about £25  dulwich barbers hair cut about£22  jazzes haircut about £26
    • Re Day One, £52 for a short hair cut (cut & styling) and £72 for a long hair cut (cut & styling) which I believe is below the ears.  £38 for a blow dry which doesn’t appear to be included in the cut price as it’s not mentioned.  £15 for a fringe tidy.      I remember being startled to be charged separately for a blow dry by the salon that used to be in Melbourne Grove but is now closed down.  I was asked if I wanted a blow dry after the cut and highlights and said yes, but wasn’t told that I would be charged separately.  Only found out when I went to pay the bill.    Was offered a voucher on a further appointment.    De.Salon which used to be Cut-Throat in Peckham (Choumert Rd and Brixton) charge from £45 for a Short haircut that finishes by the ears.  They charge from £40 for any haircut that finishes below the jawline.  Their prices include a blow dry.  But if you have thick hair they charge an extra £15 for every additional 15 minutes for cutting.     I had my hair cut there before the name change.  I don’t understand the from part of the price. Had a look at the Blue Tit pricing which is very complicated. They charge depending on the stylist’s  experience.  Crab Salad in Peckham  -  short hair cut above the ear - from £69.    Long hair Cut below the ear from £80. Blow dry not mentioned as being included in the cut but is priced at £55 I noticed that Kuki charge different prices for men and women.  Doesn’t seem right if a woman has short hair and a man has long hair.   I used to go to a great salon in NW London  that charged the same price for men and women and stopped going when they upped their prices for women.
