I find it hilarious that people accept Gails, but when Pret were opening there was a bit of a drama around it saying we should support our locals...

Not really – most people on here were really p*ssed off that Brick House Bakery had to walk away because of the rent increase. I was too.

Didn't support Adam's Cafe very well, did they? (not myself and the Baron, we frequented it often)

It's not Dulwich or Peckham, but... Bistro Chez Lucie has opened opposite Gipsy Hill station. It looks like a very nice, classic, casual French bistro serving all the classics: moules, beef Bourguignon, cassoulet etc. Mains are £16-26.

Does anyone know what the new shop on Lordship lane is going to be please? - the one that was once a chinese restaruant and then an indian and has been a pop up gallery too - it has a sign that says 'chi' I think.  Its the one next to cheese block

There was a sign on the window a few weeks ago that said it will be a Chinese restaurant.

Not ED, but Forza Wine (originally of Peckham and then Camberwell too) has just opened up another venue at the National Theatre on the Southbank, with a terrace overlooking the river. It's good to see a local business doing well. It also adds a £1 to the bill to raise money for the SE15 Solidarity Fund.

There is a Malaysian pop-up, Janda Diner at the Man of Kent in Nunhead. Their stay has been extended for another month and then they are moving to a more permanent home in Peckham.

The Chinese takeaway next to Eric’s on Upland Rd has been revamped, or has closed and been taken over by another owner. Seating is being installed outside. A new restaurant, perhaps? Good luck, whatever it will be.

It’s going to be a cafe, serving bubble tea amongst other things.

    • Janda Diner (Malaysian) got a glowing review in the Times at the weekend. https://www.thetimes.com/life-style/food-drink/article/janda-diner-peckham-review-i-needed-it-to-deliver-and-it-did-vchsxc9gx
    • Has anyone had any joy getting refunds for their cancelled kids' swimming lessons? I am constantly just getting a 'computer says no' response from Dulwich Leisure - quite how they think its okay to charge £42.40 per child without a service being given is beyond me! I will try emailing Portia too...
    • Just to clarify, this isn't the same cherry as last year, it's in the corner by the path that runs down to the crossroads of FHR / Colyton / Dunstans. It hasn't been an issue previously because the perimeter wasn't as large... I'm sure it must have been noticed & flagged during the various planning meetings, walkabouts etc and there is an ecological resolution planned that will avoid any damage to the tree. After all, Gala pride themselves on their environmental stance, being "nestled in the park" and everything... 🤦
    • Those branches are going to get chopped...again. All of this shows the central paradox at the heart of Southwark's greening the streets policy. What is the good of planting trees in tarmac if you are simultaneously wrecking large sections of the park and stopping locals using the park? It just does not make sense. Cllr Catherine Rose should be made to answer for Gala conduct, if they are already flouting the terms of their agreement.
