I went there a couple of weeks ago, for lunch. Food was really good and kebabs cooked over proper wood burning grill. It goes back a long way inside and could seat 100+ I imagine. No alcohol license but you can take your own.

I wonder if Heineken taking a 50% stake has something to do with that ? buttering us up with the price and then brewing it under licence in Europe. When the Flying Pig started having Lagunitas on draft all the time, I wondered if something was up.

It looks quite posh, Was watching them doing something to the ceiling last night after closing

and the two boys going past on hoverboards (Laws don't apply in Rye Lane ) ;)

By the way - we've drunk John out of lager - but more will come :)

Wouldn't describe it as "posh"... if anything it's a bit tacky and garish. But the food is OK. It's the kind of place where your shish comes with rice and salad (maybe some "pide" bread on the side) rather than bunged into a crappy dry pitta. They also do grilled seafood/fish, lamb chops, etc.

For Rye Lane that is ;)

I actually like sitting watching the chaos though.

Something was going on in the Nines yesterday too

(just checked it was an intimate evening celebrating

SOUND.)

With constant 'Rent Hikes' in East Dulwich soon the place will be killed off..

Only estate angents, M&S and some over priced eateries will remain...

...Peckham is being developed and if rent prices there are kept sensible East Dulwich will relocate there..

...People will start eating and drinking in Peckham and E.D. will fall into decline..

...The Bubble is about to Burst.

Wishful thinking, Foxy.

For better or for worse (depending on your point of view) East Dulwich has been sliding gently towards NorthcoteRoadification for a long time now. See those people buying the million quid plus houses? They have plenty of money to spend in overpriced eateries.. and there are more of them every year. They'll regularly drop ?100 on a school night dinner for two if the food's decent - without a second thought. They don't care how much a pint costs.

Incidentally, some of us have managed to enjoy the eating and drinking in Camberwell, Peckham, New Cross - and all sorts of other places - for some time now, as well as going out on Lordship Lane. Why it has to be one or the other is a strange notion.

Anecdotally it looks to me like The pubs and bars in LL have *suffered* a decline in people/footfall though *Bob* as any drinkers under 30 - and the more desperate clinging to their youth 30- 40 years old (and a few even older) - have decamped to Peckham/Bellenden. I don't think SE22 is much of a drinking destination nowadays (compered to a whilst back) it's just locals.

Is the person that wrote:

"I have a massive confession. I don't really like going to pubs anymore I was bought up in a pub going extended family and the pub was central to my life for most of my teenage years and the majority of my adult life. Nowadays I can't understand the attraction of going night after night or staying out until the early hours in pubs. I don't mind going out once in a while to the pub but in general it's a boring money drain and I'd rather do something else. There. I said it. I feel liberated an am embracing my grumpy old man."

There was a bit of a drinking rush on LL a few years back, then it subsided. It was more of an anomaly though really, not the norm. It's reverted to its more usual quieter state, which isn't a bad thing in my book. The dreadful Adventure bar marked the high tide - and had clearly missed whatever temporary boat there was.

The eateries worth their salt are busy. That's where the money's going.

Nope on my occasional forced night out I'm happy with a pint or two in SE22 before pootering home at 10.30 when the sadder old gits head down to the Bussey..... to stare at girls a few years older than their kids. (no names :)
