I do like these arguments 'when my mother..' etc. etc.

There's absolutely nothing that the current generation can do to right the wrongs of the past, but that doesn't mean that we're guilty of the same crime. To inappropriately drag up these issues (by way of accusation) as part of the debate is about revenge, not resolution.

Likewise the point about pensions. Why the differential existed is only of fractional importance when compared with the far more grown-up and challenging question 'is this relevant to modern society, and how can we structure ourselves for the future'?.

As for the 'men created it and you're a man'... well I hope never to hear such bigotted offensive cr@p again in my lifetime. You should be ashamed. Attitudes like that created the holocaust. It's a mental disease.

Yes very good Mockney! Love it.

By the way Hugo the pension situation has already changed. I won't be able to claim a pension at 60 and neither will most of my peers. Everyone under I think 50 (?) both men and women will only be able to claim at 65. If you read the end of Trinity's post, she asks the very question that you also raise as being important - she was merely answering a previous post in discussing the reasons for the difference in retirement ages. And I wasn't trying to make any accusation towards anyone in my post - just making a personal point about why I feel working against discriminatino is so important - because at the end of the day, it's not just an academic debate but affects real people and their lives.

Anyway, this thread has gotton completely out of control - honestly, I mean it now, I'm not going to add to its unmanageableness by adding to it anymore.

    • In case anyone is renovating or stripping out an old kitchen, I am looking for a base kitchen unit or carcass to house an oven for a temporary set up kitchen.   Also looking for a run of worktop at least 180 cm long if anyone is disposing of something like this, I would be happy to collect.   thanks   Mila
    • Big recommendation for Stephen Viccary who has created a magnificent bathroom for us. Quality of work is absolutely top notch. We couldn't be happier - see pics.  Stephen is considerate and tidy meaning working from home during the work was fine (some noise - obviously, it is a demo and installation after all. He does not work on multiple jobs, does a full days work and does ALL the work himself - Tiling, plumbing, lighting (including lighting on a motion sensor under the vanity and in the shower niche - for night time visits 😉), he even changed the door architraves, sorted the badly cracked ceiling and did all the paint work. A full end to end service. Stephen's number - 07941 266 145
    • Highly recommend Dulwich Eco Gardening.  When he came to quote Saied said he’d give our garden back so we could decide what we do next.  Under two weeks of hard work from Saied and Mo and we have the garden back and can see paving I’d forgotten about. Not only did Saied remove our very overgrown greenery. Nature had taken over. He also took back to our fence line overgrown ivy, apple and pear trees and and dealt with a neighbours bamboo that had invaded our garden.  We are now going to get quotes for what we do next so those quoting will be able to see the space.  Saied has suggested someone to quote and will be coming back when he does in case he has any questions or they can work together.  I thought Saied would be a good choice and he was. Quotes from others didn’t leave me with confidence for the end result. That was never a concern with Saied.
