Fitting a pull-up bar to a bedroom wall. Help!

I tried this yesterday for my son and after all of the drilling and assembly he tried it and it fell out.I gave up. I was using screws and these are obviously not strong enough. What should I use for my 2nd attempt?

Any civil engineers out there?

Even if it's a solid brick wall... a lot of these old houses have pretty crumbly brickword, covered in layers of equally crumbly plaster which have been built up over the years. If your house is anything like mine, you'll need large screws (80 or 100mm) with matching wall plugs. That should ensure that you're screwing deep into the brick.

If it's an external wall and/or if there are bricks beneath the plaster, drill through into the bricks and use expansion bolts. They'll hold anything.

Flat mate at Uni had one in his bedroom door opening, screwed into the door frame, you just had to remember to duck your head...

I've got a door frame one, no screws required, just take it out when you're not using it.

You're right about crumbly brickwork Jeremy. Three out the four holes I drilled were fine but the other just wouldn't hold anything. I must look up what expansion bolts are maxxi. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Yeah... I've been there. Ended up smashing out a large chunk of crumbling brick and plaster and filling in with cement. Then re-drilling when set. That held it!

Made another attempt on the wall which didn't work so ended up getting one for the door. This works great and very easy to put up. Anyway if anyone wants the wall one for free send me a message.
