Even if it's a solid brick wall... a lot of these old houses have pretty crumbly brickword, covered in layers of equally crumbly plaster which have been built up over the years. If your house is anything like mine, you'll need large screws (80 or 100mm) with matching wall plugs. That should ensure that you're screwing deep into the brick.

Yeah... I've been there. Ended up smashing out a large chunk of crumbling brick and plaster and filling in with cement. Then re-drilling when set. That held it!

Not really been flagged as an issue this year but I am still betting on the odd card, posted well before Christmas, arriving late January.
