LouiseMarron
Can anyone recommend a company in the East Dulwich/Herne Hill area who offer damp course services; I have identified damp brick work behind the plaster in my kitchen. Thank you. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/50229-wanted-damp-course-services/ Share on other sites
lpool
I recently used Kiltox to do some damp proofing in a Victorian semi. Got 3 quotes and they seemed to be the best in terms of knowledge of property and recommended treatment. nunhead_man
Rising damp is a myth, says former RICS chiefIn response, Elaine Blackett-Ord, chair of the Register of Architects Accredited in Building Conservation, has also spoken out against rising damp, saying it was as rare as ?rocking-horse shit?http://www.architectsjournal.co.uk/news/daily-news/-rising-damp-is-a-myth-says-former-rics-chief/5204095.article# Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/50229-wanted-damp-course-services/#findComment-790119 Share on other sites
indiej25
So would you care to explain my very utility/kitcheb wet wall, it is very visibly wet and wet to the touch? LouiseMarron
I have a similar situation - a wet patch appeared on the wall - we removed a section of plaster and there are no pipes there. The bricks are damp and several are crumbly and 'grey' looking. I've arranged for Kiltox to visit next week. Ignoring the issue is not an option. nunhead_man
Please note I'm not an expert - just an interested amateur. Intested ins stuff like this.....http://www.heritage-house.org/the-fraud-of-rising-damp.htmlBut a wet wall in a kitchen?Possibly.....a) broken rainwater pipe outsideb) if wall is cold and kitchen has a lot of steam - cooking? hot wash? then it could be condensatec) ground level outside too high / no drainage at edge of wallbut YMMV - your mileage may vary Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/50229-wanted-damp-course-services/#findComment-790138 Share on other sites
LouiseMarron
Thanks you to the person who suggested Kiltox - does anyone have an alternative suggestion as I would prefer to get two quotations. ed_pete
I'd recommend David Duggan - search for his name on the forum and you'll see he's a popular choice for damp issues. jimbo1964
Several years ago we used Roger Gulliver (from recommendations on here). He did a great job.. and still no damp. fernado
I had a few companies quote me on some dampproofing work a few years ago, Gullivers included. All were extortionate to say the least. I ended up using their specifications and employing my own builders to carry out the work for half the cost. Despite what the dampproofing companies say, injecting a dampproof course and installing a waterproof membrane (if required) most certainly is NOT rocket science: any competent builder will be able to carry it out. What you won't get of course is a 'guarantee'... not that half of those are worth the paper they're printed on.
