Mustard
I recently finished reading Freedom by Jonathan Franzen and enjoyed it immensely. It's the first book of his I have read. I also like Anne Tyler books, you could start with The Accidental Tourist. bradley
Thor Heierdal's Kon-Tiki or Spiral and Earthquake by Andy Remic. You can also try James Clavell's books. Start with King Rat and then move on to Tai-Pan, Shogun, Noble House etc. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/50394-can-anyone-recommend-me-a-great-book/#findComment-791602 Share on other sites

Hawley
Depends what sort of stuff you enjoy. For what it's worth though, I found all of these particularly enjoyable:The Corrections - Jonathan FranzenEnglish Passengers - Matthew KnealeStar of the Sea - Joseph O'ConnorCanada - Richard FordThe Secret History - Donna Tartt Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/50394-can-anyone-recommend-me-a-great-book/#findComment-792580 Share on other sites
siousxiesue
What's the last book you really loved Karen, so we can recommend with a bit more confidence? I've got a huge list off the top of my head but unless I have an inkling of your taste, you may hate them all!Having said that, I second all Hawley's list. Mustard
Haven't read Canada yet, but I recommend The Sportswriter, also by Richard Ford, and the sequels. You do not have to be a sports fan to like this book.Hawley Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Depends what sort of stuff you enjoy.
