Can anyone recommend me a great book?

Hiya,

I used to love reading and really enjoyed getting lost in a good book but I can't seem to find one that holds my interest lately. Can anyone recommend me a good book that they just couldn't put down?

I recently finished reading Freedom by Jonathan Franzen and enjoyed it immensely. It's the first book of his I have read. I also like Anne Tyler books, you could start with The Accidental Tourist.

An old one, but Song of Solomon or Beloved by Toni Morrison are my all time favorites.

Thor Heierdal's Kon-Tiki or Spiral and Earthquake by Andy Remic.

You can also try James Clavell's books. Start with King Rat and then move on to Tai-Pan, Shogun, Noble House etc.

Depends what sort of stuff you enjoy. For what it's worth though, I found all of these particularly enjoyable:

The Corrections - Jonathan Franzen

English Passengers - Matthew Kneale

Star of the Sea - Joseph O'Connor

Canada - Richard Ford

The Secret History - Donna Tartt

What's the last book you really loved Karen, so we can recommend with a bit more confidence? I've got a huge list off the top of my head but unless I have an inkling of your taste, you may hate them all!

Having said that, I second all Hawley's list.

Haven't read Canada yet, but I recommend The Sportswriter, also by Richard Ford, and the sequels. You do not have to be a sports fan to like this book.
