Hi,

Did you know East Dulwich has a new food co-op? We are a group of people who make an order from Suma wholesale once a month to buy all sorts of food and household items. Lots of healthy, ethically sourced food and at wholesale prices. If you'd like to join the group or find out more, send me a message.

Thanks,

Clare

Suma Wholesale is a long-established workers' co-op that sells beans, lentils, "wholefoods" and specialist foods. See:

http://www.suma.coop/

It was set up in the 1970s by people who realised that if they clubbed together and purchased wholesale, they would be able to buy basic healthy foodstuffs far cheaper [back in the days when wholefoods were exotic and more difficult to buy].

I think the idea of a group of people clubbing together to purchase Suma products at a slightly cheaper price in East Dulwich is a very good idea in principle, but:

I haven't heard back to my PM sent on 3 Nov yet

if it is to use the name "East Dulwich Food Co-op", I would want assurances that it was actually a co-op and registered as such, or operating using proper co-operative princples and intending to register formally as a co-op in the near future.

Fingers crossed!

Hello

I took part in the last order and attended the first meeting - so it does exist and has worked well so far. Odd that you didn't get a reply to your PM - maybe try again?

RE "co-op" we're not yet formally constituted - we wanted to gauge interest and work out along the way how we want to be constituted etc. So, what we are at the moment is a community group run on cooperative lines. It could develop into a bigger operation at which point we will probably have to look at it differently and could develop other community benefits.

Hi JRK

It's fairly simple.

A small group of us have got together to make a regular order from the Suma so-op (a wholesaler of organic, vegetarian, vegan and specialist foods). As long as the value of our order reaches at least ?250, delivery is free. We take it in turns to be the drop-off point for the whole order and everyone else troops round to collect their butter, tinned tomatoes, coffee or whatever.

Clare-Bear kindly co-ordinates things for us, so do PM her directly if you're interested.

Thanks

Jenny

    • Hello East Dulwich families 👋 I wanted to introduce myself to the community. I’m a professional family & wedding photographer with 14+ years of experience, and I split my time between the US and London throughout the year. I’ll be based in London for the coming weeks and would love to photograph more local families here in East Dulwich. My approach is very relaxed and natural — no stiff posing, no pressure — just real connection, movement, and the beautiful everyday moments that tell your family’s story. I work especially well with kids and parents who feel “awkward” in front of the camera (which honestly is most of us!). Sessions can take place at home, in the park, on your favourite street, or anywhere that feels meaningful to you. The goal is to create images that feel like your life — not a photoshoot. If anyone has been thinking about documenting this season with their children, I’d love to connect, answer questions, or simply share examples of my work. No pressure at all — just happy to be here and meet some neighbours. You can see my work here: https://bluesparkphotography.com/family/ (use the contact page on the site to send me a message if you're interested!).
    • I don't! But I've also taken to calling myself David, as it seems to shorten the odds of achieving something in life. It's not King Dave, Dave Lloyd George, Dave Hockney, Dave Bowie or Dave Hasselhoff is it? And I'm not sure Michelangelo would have had such success if he'd called his sculpture 'Dave'.
