Anywhere to take broken sewing machine?

Hi all, I've recently picked up a very old singer sewing machine. I don't have the best of knowledge of sewing machines but after hours of trying, I still can't get it to work 100% (mainly problems with thread tension).

Does anyone know a local place I could take the machine to see about getting it fixed? It's very heavy!

Thanks so much!

Thread tension could well be more to do with your bobbin? Once bobbin is loaded with thread you should be able to hold up the bobbin by the thread without it rolling down. If the bobbin spirals downwards you need to tighten the wee screw on the bobbin case until it holds. Good luck!

I vaguely remember the one we used to use was put out of business by another one which opened. Wasn't Grace and Favour's food offering more of a tea shop at the back of the actual shop? If memory serves the owner, whose name escapes me now, was one of the earliest people I know to move to Hastings. Which must now be crammed with South East Londoners 🤣
