MUDDY BOOTS children's nature group at Devonshire Road Nature Reserve, Forest Hill

1, 2, 3, basecamp! This Monday's Muddy Boots session is all about MUD! It will be all about mud and soil and if you don't get at least a bit muddy, you wont be doing it right! We will be digging, planting our bulbs for Spring, making mud pies, and painting with mud! We'll warm up with hot chocolate, a story and singing some mud songs at Basecamp.

Session is at 10-11.30. Meet at the big iron Reserve gates on Devonshire Road. Opposite Tyson road. On street parking available. ?6/child, sibling discount available. Recommended for ages 14m upwards.

Bring wellies, waterproofs that you don't mind getting muddy, including trousers if you have - I'll have a couple of spares.

If you get a chance, let me know here or on 07919 077198 if you're coming. Thanks! Holly

Muddy Boots is a children's nature group which runs at Devonshire Road Nature Reserve in Forest Hill every Monday and Friday 10-11.30. Its very hands-on, friendly, relaxed, completely outdoors and aims to let children learn about nature, get grubby, get lots of fresh air and explore this lovely wild green space at their own pace. Each week we have a nature related activity nature and there's digging, watering, a walk in the woods and listening for wildlife. We end up back at our log circle basecamp with a story, snack and songs. Children any age love the peace of the reserve and are very welcome. To engage best with the day's more structured activity, I recommend 14m and over. Younger siblings are very welcome to come along for free.

    • Anyone know what the V7 local is turning into? Saw some guys painting it a teal colour last night which made me think it’s probably turning into another Truepennys haha - hopefully something more interesting
    • I agree with Sue here, but it is reasonable to raise a concern - there have been incidents of mass poisoning (from restaurants and cafes, supermarkets and food sellers such as butchers and fishmongers) where early warning (or a lack of it) has had a significant impact. But where this concern has been reasonably raised, but then discovered to be likely misplaced, it is a good thing to obfuscate the retailer identity. Of course, by removing the specificity, this might get later readers to worry that other ice-cream outlets locally were being implicated! Bit of a lose-lose situation really!
    • Yes, even  just the thread title will stick in people's minds, with the specific cafe mentioned. And they will see it every time they look at the list of threads in this section of the forum. It might be a good idea to change it to remove the cafe name and say something like "a local cafe"?
    • Our son really doesn't interact with others much and very rarely gets out, but when he does, an ice cream at the cafe is a favourite treat (even when it's freezing outside). Like yours, it's a single-person data point - in our case, no illness. Bugs can come from anything/anyone - other people are far more likely to be the unwitting carriers, in my view. Having gone there for years and years, never had a concern re the ice cream. And generally do worry about linking an establishment with illness/standards, even as a question as, even subconsciously, the association may stick in people's minds (and if they stop the ice cream, we'll be devastated!).
