I rang to check if they had a particular chutney in stock (quite a difficult one to find) - he said that he did and had plenty of it; couldn't get to the shops that day, when I did go in the following day, he told me off for not having been in before (even though the shelf was groaning with jars of said condiment)!

I want LOCAL to succeed as I shop in very few other places! It's not fussy to want hygienic local places!

Why in this country do we have to pay through the nose to buy good quality food? Good cheeses and wines are sold in supermarkets as well as local shops and are freely available to all budgets. Such a throw back to the british class system that quality cheese should be priced highly so lower budgets cannot afford them.

I think the french have a better understanding of food though and class isn't allowed to cloudy the waters over who can eat what and where to buy it from. Price is the biggest barrier to that in the UK, and it's amusing to see spanish, italian delis, specialist cheese shops aimed at the middle classes in ED when back at home this food would be available to all people of all classes because price isn't a barrier. I'm not knocking iceland cheese, had a reasonable bit of cheddar out of there more than once before.

    • In it's own right a free event is potentially a nice idea- although reports from last year were not that positive. But, a free event in this case is not in my view worth the price of continued expansion of this event and privatisation of park space over the summer months.  It will be interesting to see if Southwark has declined to licence the further three days (meaning 7 in all over 2 concecutive weekends). The decision is meant to be in but I cannot find it.
    • A reminder of how points are scored in the game. Apart from their website, Superbru has a couple of apps, one of which is specifically for rugby. Anyone wishing to join see previous post. There must be some rugby fans in ED who haven't played before!
