tinyem
Hi,Has anyone skied with young children, any tips?We are hiring a nanny so that we can take advantage of our ski in/out chalet. We are staying in Val Thorens. My concerns are around what should she wear, how should she travel - do I buy a sledge/snow trains for buggy, what will she do all day - I only plan to bring a few toys?Thank you! ClareC
Is the nanny an in resort one? If so the nanny will have toys / entertainment etc that s/he will bring along. Just take layered clothing, hats , gloves etc like you would for yourself. We took our daughter for the first time at 10 weeks, nannies work out really well. se24mum
HiWe skied with our then 6 month old last year and hired a nanny in resort and it worked out brilliantly. Check with your nanny, but ours came with toys, plus she could pre-order nappies for us and delivered to our chalet pre-arrival which was a God send. We could even hire a buggy out there if we wanted to (and sure you could find chains but actually we didn't need those in resort). We travelled with friends, one of whom had an 18 month old and the other a 3 year old and we all had a wonderful time. If I wasn't pregnant again I would be going again this season! We took a few small toys with us, bought a NorthFace snowsuit which was v warm (and had this to hand when travelling) plus a thermal bodysuit and leggings (but actually never used it as we had plenty of other warm clothes with us). Most chalets are very hot anyway, so they'll be fine inside. Our little one was obviously a bit younger than yours will be, but the older children in our group had a great time as the nanny took them out to the nursery slopes and there seemed to be plenty to do in resort e.g. sledging. I'd also recommend getting a private transfer from the airport to the resort if you can stretch to it. We didn't, and regretted it, as you end up waiting for everyone, plus have to carry baby/toddler on lap on a long bus journey.Have a wonderful time!
