Plantain - where to get the best in ED/Peckham?

We are looking for some plantain for our new year meal but won't be back in London until Tuesday.

Any suggestions?

Our shop on Forest Hill Road used to sell them but they were not in stock last week.

We're looking for good quality (not mouldy) and fat plantains :)

Thanks,

D

The stalls just by the butcher on the corner of Choumert / Rye Lane, or the shops leading up to them.

Personally I go when the stalls on Choumert are shut and pick up the mouldy blackened ones from the street, but I like 'em well gone / can't get there earlier due to work etc.

Else try Rye Lane anywhere.

Update!

I ended up buying them from the man on the corner of the peckham rye entrance.

I had a look at other stalls too.

They were very sweet but also very bruised :(

My local, Forest Hill Supermarket, has started stocking them again and I'm very pleased with the quality. :)

    • I’d also recommend Paul for electrical work. He came round the other week to help us out with a handful of jobs (installing an SPD, new light fittings, installing a dimmer switch, a bathroom fan). His quote was cheaper than what I got from others, he turned up on time and he got the job done quickly.
    • We’d like to add our recommendation for Lukasz and team at L&L Building & Maintenance.  Lukasz has recently installed a roof terrace for us, and we’ve found him a pleasure to work with from start to finish. We contacted about a dozen recommended builders and found his quote very competitive. During the build his team delivered quality work, they were no hassle in the house at all and they kept the place tidy every day. The terrace looks great, and we’re very happy customers. What stood out in particular was Lukasz’s responsiveness, right from discussing quotes to follow-up during the build. Lukasz often checked in and was always available when we needed him.  We’ll definitely contact Lukasz again for future building work and we’d happily recommend him to others looking for a reliable builder.   Lukasz Kugaczewski L&L Building & Maintenance 07926651960 [email protected] www.landl-build.com
    • Yes, I did mention the train, which I now get from East Dulwich to Guys instead of the 40. Depends where in East Dulwich you are starting from which route is easiest! I think it is probably lack of staff rather than lack of hospitals which is the problem?
    • What can be done? How about reporting it to the police?
