Combining back reception room into side return extension

We are looking to have our side return done and wondered if anyone with a victorian terrace has combined their back reception room, to make a really big kitchen / diner space. If so any do's / don'ts advice much appreciated!!

Is your house all on the same level - lots in ED have a step down at the back so would possible make an odd room with a step in the middle!

We didn't do it but have just moved to a house where this has been done and love it.

It makes a perfect family room and we keep the front reception as adults-only space for the evenings when kid(s) are in bed. No mess.

It has a single step down from a carpeted "lounge" area to a tiled kitchen-diner bit but I like that slight deliniation.

Doors outside are at floor level with the decking which will be good in summer hopefully.
