The Dulwich Players are excited to stage a new translation of Federico Garc?a Lorca?s masterpiece The House of Bernarda Alba from 18-21 February (8pm) at the Edward Alleyn Theatre.

Obsessed with respectability and honour, Bernarda Alba rules her house with a rod of iron. Her second husband has just died and in line with family tradition she declares an eight-year period of mourning, effectively incarcerating her daughters. Feelings run high when it is discovered not only that the eldest daughter from Bernarda's first marriage has inherited a large amount of money, but that she is now set to marry the most eligible man in the village, Pepe el Romano, who has transferred his affections from the headstrong youngest daughter, Adela, to the much older Angustias. Despite warnings, Bernarda refuses to see the destructive forces at play within her household until it is too late.

A powerful and compelling new translation of Lorca's master work.

    • @NewWave I know how you feel. Like you, I've lived and spent prolonged periods of time in some pretty crazy places and always thought I could handle a bunch of kids. But, no - they got to me and I was shaking like a leaf afterwards. That's what age does to us.  But I did engage with them, so bear that in mind.  My advice would be to never let anything like that stop you doing the things you love. I'm certainly not going to stop using the park, there's no way they get to take away our cherished spaces!  If you see them, just change tack and keep out of their way. My dog won't even go that way again, so that's that problem solved. (If I see them again, I'm going to keep taking photos from a safe distance).
    • Truly horrific. Being passive or fighting back is what many of us think about by violent theft.
    • What ridiculous waste of money
    • Lots of good primary schools within reach of there. Fairlawn, Goodrich, Ivydale and Horiman. Secondary schools you will definitely get into the Harris Academies or Sydenham Girls or Forest Hill Boys, you might just be on the boundary for the East Dulwich or North Dulwich Charter but it changes every year.
