Hi folks,

This is Craig here. Trying to get in touch with anybody who was a pupil at the school in 1972 (I think). This is a fantastic story. Bob Marley was broke and couldn't afford his fare back to Jamaica. Stranded in London, he was persuaded to play a lunch time gig at the school, along with Johnny Nash. (some pics attached). He went back to Jamaica after and promptly became reggae's first international superstar!

I run a ska and reggae night called Honey Hush at the Bussey and Peckham Peculiar has got in touch. They want to do a feature on the Bob Marley story and the club night and they'd love to interview anybody who was at the school gig.

This is your chance for Peckham Peculiar stardom. Fingers crossed some ex-pupils are out there.

Not me. Parkdrive went to Peckham Manor School and I think you'll find there is a thread about it lurking somewhere in The Lounge.

I went to Tulse Hill. We had Muhammed Ali come and visit us in '74. Unfortunately, I missed it as I'd already walked out telling the headmaster he could shove his school up his arse. I never went back.

    • Hi there!   We are looking into getting a side return and loft dormer. I wondered if anyone had any experience of working with Resi or GoPlans? We'd be keen for there to be an element of interesting architectural design, however can't afford a traditional architect. We wondered if Resi might have the edge over GoPlans on this due to the size of the company and the amount of architectural designers they have working for them.    We'd love to know any thoughts you had about these companies or similar!   Thanks!   Julia
    • I’d like to recommend local plumber - James at Trelco Plumbing. I’ve used them twice now, for a kitchen tap replacement and a boiler repair. Both times they were able to attend at short notice, arrived on time and we are very happy with the work they have done. James is polite, responsive and easy to deal with. • Deptford Green and Elm Green anecdotally have a more realistic and compassionate to kids differing needs. Whether that is still the case i'm not sure. Having 3 boys at Charter i would seriously consider a boys school if you have them, Charter East really aren't geared up for the different educational needs of some boys and the challenging behaviour this frustration leads to. I have heard amazing things about St Thomas the Apostle boys school.
    • Thanks everyone for the great recommendations! I wouldn't normally go for vegan restaurants, but I've been to En Root and really liked it. Fresh and tasty.  The Ritzy Cinema in Brixton also sell their food, to eat in their cafe before or after a film (I don't think they sell the whole menu that you'd find in Peckham, but there is a good choice)
