Jeremy I don't think its the pricing that's the only issue, it's the standard. I was a big fan of Wheelers of St James's back in the day (not sure if it even exists today) and they served some absolutely lovely freshly prepared fish meals (and a an excellent wine menu to boot), I considered them pricy but always on the button with quality and it was a nice treat. By the sounds of this place it's a big standard chippy that happens to have more variety in fish and charges a little extra for something that's not even upto the standard of an old school fish & chip shop.

Yes, this completely

I think you have to ask yourself how long you're prepared to spend with your nose pressed up against the glass looking in; going inside, not buying anything and coming out again; speculating, deliberating and endlessly wondering what that sub-?10 meal is actually going to be like.

Go in. Buy. Eat. Decide. Move on.

*Bob* I refuse to spend a penny over the magic tenner for fish and chips. Something in the price range of 4-6 pounds is more my cup of tea, but I am tempted now I know they serve booze. If I do go in I will not be ordering British water fish, as it seems pointless at the extra prices. Something more exotic with a nice glass of white wine maybe. If it's crap I won't hold back, it's only fair.

Can I come with and watch you?

I can only imagine your reaction as you're seated on rustic 'contemporary' benching, huffing and puffing as little Max / Oliver / India (insert cliche child name of choice) buzz about whilst their parents look stare at their iphones.

No, I had a bad impression of the place based on price, but thought the food might be good so decided to check.

From what I've read here: you pay for the experience.

Great. If you want the experience, go for it.

Personally, I hate being forced to smile back at someone as they stitch me up.

It's false. I'm not your friend, I'm your effing customer and this is the first time we've met

(sorry for the siderant, this is a pet peeve of mine)

@Jeremy - I did find a cheap place yesterday 1 minute up the road from the station. Cant remember the name

Googling "Ramsden's Bluewater" shows it's around 1hr 30 by public transport - bit of a trek to get fish and chips (+ cost of getting there)!

The Question was -- Where can you get fish and chips (eat in) for under ?6? -- and I answered it..

I go Shopping at Bluewater 40mins in the car and free parking all day.

A lot easier than shopping in the West End and carrying stuff on the bus.

DulwichFox

I hope it's as good as the Harry Ramsden Euston Experience - which I believe is also under ?6.

You get a tiny piece of fish and about 8 chips, which you get to eat while sitting on a sticky vinyl-backed chair with the stuffing falling out of it.

Well greasy. Tastes ok though. You can't go *that* far wrong with fish and chips, really.

(That said, the old Dolphin fish bar on FHR managed)

OK, fair answer!

Dulwich Fryer, I think you mean. And it is good (at least used to be, I haven't been since the owner changed). I'm sure it is a bit cheaper than ?6.75 for cod and chips, but no so much as to make SC look outrageous.

I do...

I use John Lewis.. M&S .. Boots .. River Island .. Next ... Steamer Trading (Cook Shop)..

Holland & Barrett .. EE .. Apple .. Waterstones .. JD Sports.. And of course Harry Ramsden...

All under one roof,

Brilliant..

    • Wow, well served with local supermarkets then…  Agree with ATM.. good c position to been mugged or cloned card - prob why not been considered before. Wasn’t there one outside post office and still  is2where people were abit nervous of using? Hope I am wrong but won’t see me rushing to use it…sure lots of folk will benefit thou. Not a great fan or user of Iceland but when it closed years ago people complained..  Guess they only b look at bigger sites - can’t recall an express one but a pity to those who frequent the store. Strange that Tesco can use it as local but Iceland can’t - guess it is  power of large supermarkets. Personally would have  loved an Aldi or Lidl but  clearly site to small. Only grocery stores left to come are Waitrose, Aldi, Lidl…
    • I'm paying £31 pcm for full fibre 300, whatever that is. I'm not sure it's a particularly good deal now, but I did a comparison at the time I went onto it, and it was then. I don't have a landline any more, and my mobile is with iD, who piggyback off 3. I don't usually have any problems,  except once a few years back when the whole 3  network (?) went  down for quite a long time.
    • I have Plusnet too.   I recently (August) had some problems with WiFi connection on different days but and the turning off and turning on didn’t work.  The WiFi didn’t work for quite a few hours - overnight in one case but eventually rectified itself.   Would be interested to know how much other people pay for Plusnet. I also have a landline with them as the mobile signal is bad inside house.  That is with EE and I want to change from them to another provider.
    • That's terrible 🤬 Was it the same company both times?
