This is a post from last year. Loved Sprinter Sacre in the past and having just watched it win today on highlights, in amazing style I wish I had seen it today but was too busy at work.

  • 11 months later...

Friend of friend is an amateur tipster - here goes

Right we?re off again ? another good year last year ? lets keep at it

Plenty of good bets landed last year many bankers obliged all week

This year it?s a very different festival ? so many injuries and a list of stars missing...

It has made all the markets a lot more open if lacking in some quality.

Due to that I will not be afraid of big prices this week ? may be playing a bit more each way then usual and less Bankers I think

I will often back two in some races esp hcaps instead of going each way

I have mentioned a lot more horses below but later in week I cannot be sure of fields and this should at least be a guide

Horses put up below but many of races not filled as this time and during the week things will change and I will play other horses. The horses with *** are good bets though I am interested in and will be running in their races. Also the ones for multiples for the week.

Day 1 Tuesday

Supreme novices

A really open renewal of the race and all the talk has been the extremely lightly raced Melon. He will need to be exceptional to win it on day given only had one run. I may get involved in the hype on the day but I am putting forward his stable mate Bunk off Early a solid bet against the fav both of whom should love the drying ground

Bets

Bunk off Early

Arkle

Altior is unopposable

Watch ? in betting w?out market Cloudy Dream a small interest

Ultima chase

First big hcap of the meeting, I want to have Alan King by my side all week in hcaps

Label Des Obeaux is one I want to be with also playing Singlefarmpayment the likely favourite

Others to look out for is Kruzlinen last years pick at a big price, Caid Du Berlais another to look at in market.

Bets

Label Des Obeaux ew

Singlefarmpayment ew

Champion Hurdle

A poor renewal ? injuries to the ante post favourites have weakened this race to the extent that even the New One could have a chance. I am going with the improving hcapper who should love the better ground ? Brain Power he is a solid ew

Bets

Brain Power ew

Mares

Limini is short here following Ruby choosing her over Vroum Vroum Mag

I am going to oppose them both with two small bets Apples Jade and Lifeboat Mona

Bets

Apples Jade win

Lifeboat Mona ew

4 miler

Whatever Codd and Derek Oc ride here is significant. But again I am looking elsewhere Champers On Ice a good bet to take on Genie in a bottle and Edwulf. Martello Tower also worth a small interest.

Bets

Champers on Ice ew

Close bros chase

A tough hcap to finish many in with a shout, my two against the field both ran well last year at the festival Itsafreebee and

Bets

Itsafreebee ew

Foxtail Hill win

Day 2 Wednesday

Day 1 over and we?ve got through it without a single *** bet lets correct that immediately in race that has been good to us

Neptune

Neon Wolf is a real x factor here in the Neptune one of the banker bets of the week get on. Barcardys can chase him home for Willie

Bets

Neon Wolf ***

RSA Chase

Not a race I have warmed to all year Our Kaempfer interesting if turns up here. As the ground has gone good it may suit Alpha des Obeaux

Bets

Our Kampfer ew

Coral Cup

Diamond King gave us a cracking win in this last year. This year Gordon has Tombstone and he should not be far away. Two others to look out for our Harry Frys Air Horse One and a tough little horse who if gets to the bottom of hill in touch will not be far away River Frost for Alan King

Bets

Tombstone if rolling

Ew

Air Horse One

River Frost

I will be playing exactas here

Queen Mother

Douvan unopposable will win. Wout market does not interest me

Cross Country

This should be between the top two in the betting Cantlow and Cause of Causes

Maybe exacta them up including Quantitativeeasing

Bets

Cause of Causes

Fred Winter

Project Bluebook for JP I want to be with here, he was given a poor ride previous outing which probably kept him the ratings for this race. Also look out for Tony Martin gamble on Long Call maybe worth getting involved. Paul Nicholls has a great record so look out for his.

Bets

Project Bluebook ew

Long Call win saver

Bumper

The vibes about the favourite are weak here I am going to split my bet between Someday who impressed me at Leopardstown and Western Ryder who is a solid experienced runner.

Bets

Someday

Western Ryder

Day 3 Thursday

JLT

Yorkhill? it may not be pretty to watch as this horse takes some hold n his races but he is simply a monster I cannot oppose him

Bets

Yorkhill ***

Pertemps

Presenting Percy has been lumped with a lot of weight here but the way he won his last race he just may carry it. Impulsive Star is solid and For Good Measure has the course form.

Bets

Presenting Percy win

Win savers on

Impulsive star

For Good Measure

Ryanair Chase

Jossies Hill interests me here against the two favourites, which of the two I prefer Empire of Dirt. But there is a better bet in a previous winner Uxizandre he can win it

Bets

Uxizandre ***

World Hurdle

Youknowhatimeanharry get on

Bets

Youknowhatimeanharry ***

Plate

Diamond King gave us a great turn last year, he can follow up over fences here though not as strong as last year on it. Caid Du Berlais can be in the mix too.

Bets

Diamond King win

Baron Alco ew

Mares Novice Hurdle

Lets Dance will win if goes. She may turn up in Neptune though and would run well. Forge Meadow a solid ew against her. Coillte Lass also worth a look.

Bets

Lets Dance if here ***

Forge Meadow ew

Kim Muir

Tough hcap look out for the good jocks two to look at are Mall Dini and Southfield Royale

Bets

Split stake

Mall Dini

Southfield Royale

Day 4 Friday

Triumph hurdle

I want to take in the favourite here and especially if the ground is good by now.

Go with last years connections to do it again. Landofhopeandglory

Bets

Landofhopeandglory ew ***

County Hurdle

Tough to know field aa few to look out for Diego Du Charmil and Winter Escape

Bets

Diego Du Charmil ew

Winter Escape ew

Albert Bartlett

Death Duty *** BANKER for Gordon. Wholestone can chase him home and is a solid ew.

Bets

Death Duty ***

Gold Cup

A far weaker contest than last year would love Djakadam to do it for Willie at last and of the top of market probably most solid. Champagne West is taken to maybe sneak a place. Cue Card could be the talent.

Bets

Champagne West ew

Foxhunters

On the Fringe an ATM

Bets

On the Fringe

Martin Pipe

two to go lets hope we are not reaching but finishing them

Back Tin Soldier he?s made for this

Bets

Tin Soldier ***

Grand Annual

Very tough look out for Rock the World who had a wind op. Le Prezien if lines up. Dandridge been laid out. Red Spinner big ew.

Bets

Exacta box above

    • I’m not a Gail’s fan but there’s no reason a business shouldn’t open on Christmas Day. However, nobody should be compelled to work the day which, given the widespread coverage of Gail’s questionable employment practices, has to be a possibility here.  The only business I ever use on the 25th is maybe a pub and that’s a rarity these days but buses running would be very welcome for visiting etc. But the swings in the park should definitely remain chained up. Are parks even open on Christmas Day?
    • To be honest, pal, it's not good being a fan of a local business and then not go there. One on hand, the barber shop literally next door to Romeo Jones started serving coffee. The Crown and Greyhound and Rocca serve coffee. Redemption Coffee opened up not far away, and then also Megan's next door to that. DVillage was serving coffee (but wasn't very popular), as was Au Ciel (which is). Maybe also Heritage Cheese, I don't know. There's also Flotsam and Jetsam doing coffee and sandwiches at Dulwich Picture Gallery in the other direction. The whole of Dulwich Village serves coffee. And yet on the other hand, there are enough punters to support all good coffee shops. With the exception of Rocca and Megan's (which are both big spaces) and C&G (which does coffee like everything else - slow and with bad service), all these places regularly get queues out the door. Gail's often has big queues and yet very few people crossed the street to Romeo Jones (which was much better)... Half the staff at Gail's are perfectly fine and efficient. The other half are pretty offhand and rude. It's certainly not welcoming or friendly service. But they're certainly hard working, and no doubt raking the money in for Luke Johnson...
    • Well according to a newspaper article, Gail’s is opening 10 shops in London,,, yup Dulwich is named 10/5 I seem to recall with others in London opening at 7 am…!, Guess that is to capture workers coming off all night shift. Offering free mince pies until they run out.. So very sad to hear about Romeo Jones… been a customer since the opening, any idea where Patrick has gone or details… please pm me.    What is going to be in its place…. Will be around in Jan…umm village is changing….
    • interesting the police said "the car was in demand at the moment" what make/model is that?
