Blocked Drain - Help! do I need a plumber?

Go to the DIY shop and buy a bottle of One Shot. Cover your face and wear heavy duty gloves, pour it down the drain and get out of the way quickly as the fumes are bad. It's brilliant stuff though and has solved this problem for us in the past in our old place. Follow the instructions carefully though...
I'm not an expert, but have rubbish pipes I have to clear myself regularly. If you can get any access to it (probably by taking a cap off outside - trying unscrewing the end of the pipework, or going backwards from the drain under a cover if you can access that), try a bendable plumbing rod (they sell them at the DIY shop on Lordship lane). It's mucky, but works. Depends what your set up is though. I also just fixed a bathroom bathwater waste blockage by pulling off the grill outside and (wearing gloves!) pulling out the blockage. Unpleasant, but less so than kitchen waste! Good luck.

    • Hi Sue, they were not local solicitors. Andrea’s was based in Wales and the other firms involved were large nationwide conveyancing companies (rather than conventional high street solicitors). I’m happy to advise clients and buyers privately on what I believe to be their shortcomings but I don’t think doing so in public on the forum would be appropriate, particularly as they are not locally based. My general advice would always be to steer clear of the big conveyancing companies as they are, in my experience, notoriously difficult to contact when the need arises and the case handler is often not a fully qualified solicitor and so issues have to be referred upwards to “technical teams” internally, which was part of the problem in Andrea’s chain. • A slightly vulnerable but hopeful post… Hi everyone, I’m a guy in my mid-thirties who’s recently moved back to London and East Dulwich (I previously lived here for many years before, so I know the area well). But if I’m honest, I’ve found the return a little tough. Most of my close friends have moved out of London to start families — totally understandable — but it’s left me feeling a bit adrift and not quite sure how to make new connections again. Work has taken up a huge chunk of my life in recent years, and I’ve definitely let hobbies, interests and a proper social life fall by the wayside. I feel like I went from a fun social life in my 20’s to suddenly blinking and realising things had gone a bit er…quiet. So, I’m trying to redress the balance a bit — mainly so myself and my partner don’t murder each other 😂, and just to meet some new local faces. I was wondering: is anyone else in a similar boat? And would there be any interest in starting a relaxed, low-key local social group? Could be a casual pub meet, sports, park hangouts, live comedy nights — open to ideas!  I’m happy to do the organising/admin side of things — just wanted to put it out there and see if there’s any appetite. I’ll gauge interest and take it from there.  If you’d prefer not to reply publicly, feel free to drop me a DM.  Cheers all! 👋
