Just that really. We love the school and are thrilled DS got in, just wondered if there was anyone else locally (it seems to be mainly Wimbledon and Sutton kids so far, and one boy in Penge!)

Would love to hear how your boys are enjoying school - 1st choice was St Olave's, which we know a bit more about.

Thanks.

My son went to St Olave's but his best mate went to Wilson's and both boys had a choice over which one to go to. There's very little between them academically and socially - both great schools. One thing we noticed is that Wilson's pushes the boys a lot more re homework, etc. St Olave's seems to think if you're there, you need very little pushing and will achieve top marks regardless courtesy of your own efforts and ambition. My son's a lazy sod and could have done with more hoofing up his bahookie and more homework from day 1.

If your son is into footy Wilson's the better choice - St O's doesn't do footy really till the 6th form - but the journey to Wilson's can be quite long from our parts of South London (I live in Penge). Ultimately, your boy's done incredibly well and it won't make a lot of difference.

    • I know people won’t have any sympathy but the SEND challenge was brought up when taxing parents who have opted for independent school to meet a child’s SEND needs. Funding crisis is getting worse and the VAT on Education pushed children out of independent schools, now their SEND needs are to be met by the state.
    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
    • First mate - I wondered if I was imagining things at 4.45 this morning . Apparently not .
