As Keith Richards said "If The Verve can write a better song, they can keep the money". They never did.

See also that RunDMC smash remix that Nevins only got a taste of cash on and as one of the DMC crew said (something like) "if what you do is that good, play it again, Sam". He never did either.

It's not called the music 'business' for nothing.

It's fine when you're sitting around in your scummy rehearsal room smoking a doobie and being all about the music and dreaming of what might be, but when you find yourself with a big hit and money washing around it's a different story.

Anyway, Ashcroft made his wedge on Drugs - a far shitter song - which I don't think would have happened without Symphony - so he did ok.

So true. The Robin Thick/Pharrel whatsit is a bit shit though and very misogynistic and it does touch on male dominance and rape fantasy blah blah.. though we shouldn't take that lightly. Coz it's fecking horrible. And if you really want some decent misogynistic tunes you can't get much better than the Stones. Just one example here. Gawd bless 'em. Fecking tune this is.

Cor, and just dig Brian Jones on them marimbas, baby.

Given how much music has ever been published surely it's going to be that some people write what they think is an original tune only to find themselves sued by someone saying I worte a song that sounds like that 40 years ago! It's impossible to know everything ever written.

You'd definitely be hard pressed to write a song with an original chord progression, but when it comes to the melody or a guitar riff for example, that's more obvious.

But there are loads of songs that remind me of other songs , which I'm sure is not intentional copying.

    • Hello! We are relocating abroad and so will be withdrawing our two children (ages 4 and 6) from St Dunstan’s College (Catford). If any family is considering enrolling children of a similar age, now would be an excellent opportunity—we’re required to pay full‑term fees unless the places are taken. Please get in touch if you’re interested or know someone who might be. Thank you!

    • Hi, I saw your post and just wanted to say that the incident you’re referring to did happen in the late 1980s at Dawson’s Heights. The person involved was named Carl Salawa, and he had just turned 18 years old at the time. Like you, I haven’t been able to find any news articles or official reports about it, If anyone remembers anything more about that time or incident, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for sharing what you were told—it means a lot to know others remember.
