buddug
Mutti - pure Italian-grown tomatoes (most 'Italian' tomatoes in supermarkets are only produced in Italy, not grown there. Big difference!). Franklin's Farm Shop on Lordship Lane sells Mutti tinned tomatoes. Seabag
San Marzano (in the gold can) if you can find themhttp://www.amazon.com/Cento-Marzano-Certified-Tomatoes-28-Ounce/dp/B002C4HZ00 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/55473-what-are-the-best-tinned-tomatoes/#findComment-831610 Share on other sites
DulwichFox
I don't see the point in buying Tinned Tomatoes to make homemade soup? Tinned tomatoes are processed and have added sugar and salt and possibly Basil. Buy fresh tomatoes for homemade soup.. If you are buying tinned tomatoes you might as well buy tinned tomato soup. Loz
Decent tinned tomatoes are much better than fresh, because fresh tomatoes here in the are rubbish for cooking purposes. You can't buy decent, ripe plum tomatoes anywhere. I couldn't tell the difference between them and say, napolina bog standard plum tomatoes. Quite disapppointing. Maybe I need to seek out a proper brand.I bought some budget plum tomatoes, oooh a saving of 20p, in a green can. Not only did they not have that handy pull ring thing to get the lid off, they were so bad they had to be thrown in the bin. Tinny and bitter. I hate wasting food and usually make the best of something but these could not be salvaged.
