akc74
Before I call someone out, can anyone help?!I have been using my MacBook Pro all day without problem. Since I brought it home tonight and have tried to turn it on, it's playing up. It sounds like it's turning on OK - but after a slow start I am getting either no response (and it stays black) or a screen asking if I've forgotten my password and giving me the chance to reset it - and when I do, it will not restart. Each time I have tried to restart it, I get this password screen or it just stays black and doesn't appear to be turning on at all.Any tips welcome! TigerMountain
Hi akc74Try starting up in Safe Mode first.Follow these steps to start up into Safe Mode. 1. Be sure your Macbook is shut down. 2. Press the power button. 3. Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.The Shift key should be pressed as soon as possible after startup, but not before the startup sound.Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen. After the Apple logo appears, it may take longer than usual to reach the login screen. This is because your computer is performing a directory check as part of Safe Mode.If all is well and you boot into the operating system. Restart your Mac as normal to leave Safe Mode without pressing any keys during startup. The advice above was taken from Apple's support pages: https://support.apple.com/en-is/HT201262Hope that helps! lpool
Sounds like the dreaded black screen problem. I had it on my MacBook pro. Initially I was able to get it to start up following advice such as above (google the various suggested options) but eventually none worked. Various theories as to the cause of the problem - some say it is the video card that has failed. Herne Hill Guest
If you don't get it sorted go to the Mac repair shop at the far end of the Strand. No waiting weeks for a genius and they actually know what they are doing. I think it's about ?45 to assess the problem.
