A whitey is, in fact, an overdose of cannabis, leading to a pale complexion, mild sweating, inability to construct stable mental thoughts, slight paranoia and full body lethargy, usually brought about after I've told mrs beef 'half a cookie dear, half a cookie' and she scoffs four of the fuggers cos they're sooooo delicious. And overdose of caffeine, can result in similar symptoms, sweating and palpitations, mental confusion, mania, but I'm not sure if it has a common slang term yet. Too much coffee man? Write a comic book about it.

BBW - Carlsberg Special Brew, breakfast of champions - I think the only time I could get away with that was in the late 1980s at university - the only time in your life when you can do pretty much what you want for 3 years, and get away with it, drink and party in the day and get away with it and as long as you passed the exams, noone cared. Great days.

But the "breakfast of champions" line made me laugh.

Rosie, sorry I missed your hour of need. For future reference the antidote to too much coffee is non-caffinated fluids, carbs and waiting for it to wear off.

Caffeine is a diuretic and stimulates insulin production, so part of the tremulous sick feeling is dehydration and low blood sugar. The rest is just the direct action of the caffeine and has to wear off.

Moos, the tweet that said:

"2 large coffees without assaying strength. pale, dizzy, nauseous, intermittent sweats, tremor, the works. arse fine thus far."

Two peas in a pod. You're right, Rosie Goldacre - I like it!

Quids, to me a whitey was always a cannabis thing too (although there was never actual vomit) - it's just that my symptoms were comparable to bona fide old skool whiteys and that given that I'd only had coffee and cola, it took me rather by surprise.

    • That is almost too ridiculous to answer but I'll take the bait. You are comparing a national charity with one branch of a small charity. Cats Protection has around 34 dedicated rehoming centres. CHAT has two, Lewisham & Canning Town and a sanctuary in Sussex. So if Cats Protection have homed 34,000 cats, thats an average of 1000 per branch. From memory this years total so far for Lewisham CHAT was over 980. I saw a few homed this weekend so we may well reach 1000 for this year. The same as Cats Protection. No need for head scratching.
    • Actually, if it was factory fitted then it's location would be documented. It's the fact that it can be fitted in different places which means that it's difficult for thieves to locate.
    • OK, good suggestion and it appears that the after-market price is about £260. But if that that was fitted ex-factory then the cost would be substantially less and certainly a small fraction of the price of a high-end car.
