Protest Against Major Landlord in Herne Hill on Sat 2nd May

D.C. Resists is a private renters campaign group in Herne Hill. Our whole estate is owned by a single freeholder, with the same company Manaquel being the landlord to most of the residents.

Our day of action (squeezed into 2 hours) is happening this Saturday 2nd May from 12 midday until 2pm on Dorchester Court, Herne Hill SE24 9QX. We will have banners for a press photo opportunity which will then be on permanent display from residents' balconies.

We are protesting our landlord/freeholder Manaquel allowing the buildings to fall into disrepair while pushing massive rent hikes for tenants by as much as 60% in a single year. Anybody who questions these rises finds when their AST contract expires that the landlord is unwilling to renew and the tenant faces eviction.

We are saying "enough!"

We are expecting housing activists from across London to attend the protest in support of our struggle for decent affordable homes free of victimisation.

We ask those willing to stand with us to come and show their support. Nearest train stop is Herne Hill or the 68, 468, 42 and P4 buses all come even closer. Bring your banners and your voices. Hope to see you there.

Thanks.

This is frankly disgusting, and it seems that Southwark and Lambeth councils are all too happy and pally with landlords and developers, resulting in a distressingly negative impact on those on low incomes in London.

I hope you manage to attract some media attention and have your voices heard.
