Kitchen Extension Firm Recommendation

Recommended Posts

A year ago the forum gave me really helpful recommendations for beginning some building work and I'd like to repay the favour by giving a heartfelt thanks to the firm we went with, they're a family business from south London, who specialise round here and have been an absolute dream to work with.

Plus Rooms is the firm, and from the no nonsense, but incredibly helpful first consultation to the detailed, creative and week by week proposal and detailed budget, the client servicing was unlike any one else we spoke to, and we spoke to a few.

After a 2k deposit they took care of all planning, design, architects and approvals and a few months later turned up on the exact estimated day and week by week stuck to the schedule. They devised a clever way to reconfigure the house so we could live through it and avoid the cost of moving out, plus play an active role in decision making as work went on.

That sounded like a nightmare and could have been, but instead we became friends with the firm, who were amazing working around a family and each week the work was verified to the original schedule before payment made, and eight weeks later the work was done, on time and on budget.

Another 4 weeks of finishing later, same team, also on time and on budget and the work is done, with a level of service that culminated in a follow up meeting weeks after completion where they went over every last detail looking for ways to improve what they do, we hands down gave them 10 out of 10 and so, I thought they deserve credit here, for anyone considering an extension that lives in a victorian house, it's all they do, they were the most reasonable and far and away the most reassuring.

[email protected] is the chap, looks about 12 but don't let that fool you, he's one of the two brothers and between them, they're doing an excellent job. if you could buy shares I would, but for now, as I sit enjoying their fine work, I think they deserve credit.

I hope that helps someone who was in the same position as we were weighting up confusing and costly alternatives, give these guys a try, if they do half as good a job as they did for us, you will not be disappointed.

Well, Stevie is a bit of a cynic but I agree with DavidPeckham above. Living through a kitchen extension on a terraced London house isn't fun. We both work full-time and have two children at school so returning at the end of each day to the property once works had commenced last summer could be a little stressful; but PlusRooms protected our downstairs areas, created a temporary kitchen for us and were really considerate of the fact we were living through the works. We're delighted with our new space so can recommend them, and are probably going back for a loft conversion too...

We have just completed a kitchen extension with Plus Rooms and would also highly recommend them. On time and on budget! We had never done any work like this before and were very nervous but they came highly recommended and we were impressed with our initial contact with them.

They were highly professional, managed the whole thing from start to finish i.e. submitting the planning application through to all the electrics and plumbing so we didnt need to find numerous contractors. We went with them because we both work full time and dont have the time to manage lots of ppl.

Most importantly we are very happy with the work, which is extremely good quality and looks fantastic. If we move in the future and did something similar i'd definitely go back to Plus Rooms. Ive heard friends' horror stories of working with builders and this really was pretty smooth.

They pride themselves on recommendations so it's worth visiting some houses they've done in the area and talking to ppl who have used them.

Hi, I have been following this thread as am looking for a reliable builder to do our kitchen/ground floor extension. I'll get in touch with them.

Dot81 and David Peckham would it be possible to view the work they have done for you? Please PM. Many thanks

I've been following this thread for that same reason too. It would be great to know they also fitted out the extension or did you get another firm for that? Also did they give you a 10 year insurance backed guarantee? I guess that's one of the benefits of going with a larger firm like plusrooms.

    • Why did you feel the need to post that? Have you actually read the rest of the thread?
    • He lived in my road, so I bumped into him quite often, but I knew him as Mick, not Mike. We originally met at the opening of The Actress. Crikey, how long ago that seems now. He had a fox in his window 🤣 Not a real one, obviously. I only found out that he had died because I hadn't seen him around for a while,  so I mentioned it  on our road WhatsApp group, and someone on there told me. He had been ill for some time, but he was just in the middle of what must have been extremely expensive private  dental treatment (a lot of implants) so I assume his death was sadly unexpected.
    • Not in the same position but are you able to access the physical meter to take your own readings ? You could do this as frequently as you wanted to. I think TW are rolling out smart meters that don’t need to be physically read by them, and perhaps that’s what you have. I think that TW will only change your monthly direct debit once every 6 months, when you get the official statement.
    • Has anyone else had a water meter fitted in the last couple of years but is not being billed on the actual consumption as measured by the meter. I ask because after our meter was fitted 18 months ago, we could see the actual meter readings on our online account. This was helpful in terms of monitoring the consumption down to a day to day basis. However after about 6 months, the meter readings were no longer published online. I recall earlier advice from TW that  we would have a 12 month "trial" period after which we could opt to switch to metered consumption or stay on the rate based on the rateable value of our house.  As there's only two of us in the house, I reckon our actual consumption is well below the RV based consumption rate so with a bit of cynicism I reckon TW has deliberately discontinued publishing the meter reading.  Had the readings continued to be published, then we could have made an informed decision on whether or not to move to metered billing. Is anyone else in a similar position?
