  1. Hi, I was wondering if you ever found anyone in the end? Would you recommend them? Also anyone else used any firm to install PV panels that they'd recommend? Tukantoo
  2. Hi, I was wondering if anyone had had any repairs on their shed recently and would recommend any tradesmen? Our shed has lost its roofing but the rest of it is in good condition so worth salvaging and re-roofing, so would be grateful for any recommendations if anyone had something similar done.
  3. We had evohome installed too- was getting a complete replumb anyway, so whilst ludicrously expensive some of that cost would have been required for standard boiler wiring and if you believe the marketing the cost will be recouped over time through efficiencies. It genuinely had been amazing for our purposes. You can have the kids bedrooms on just for exact times and exact temps as required. Have just the bedrooms on at night and just living room in day. Heat one room to a very warm temp whilst not heating whole house Etc the app is very easy and also the radiator can be controlled on the system itself if someone is staying and doesn't have it for eg. Would def recommend.
  4. Hi, We're looking to add in a layer of glass on the outside of our original stained glass Victorian door. I've seen that others in the area have it and we did it on a similar door in our previous house in another area. Does anyone have recommendations of good local glaziers who would be able to assist with that as it's quite a small job (c. 70cm by 70cm) it is probably most sensible to have someone local to do it. Let me know if anyone has done something similar or can recommend someone. Tukantoo.
  5. Hi, We recently used the cornice man to do ours. http://www.thecorniceman.co.uk He was great and it turns out putting cornice up is quite a bit more fiddly than think
  6. Hi, I've been looking through all of the amazing advice and tips for professionals on this section and couldn't directly see any recommendations for someone who can professionally draught proof a Victorian front door. There's a lot of companies who do the same for windows, but all of those who I've contacted weren't able to do the same for a front door. Our front door is currently very stiff and doesn't open/close properly, the locks don't properly align and is very draughty, so we are searching for a reputable company who can overhaul it in much the same way sash window restoration companies can, including installing draught strips along the seal so not visible from either side of the door when closed. Does anyone have any recommendations>
  7. Hi Alaska, Like ben I've been reading your posts with interest. Your project sounds exactly like what we are also going to do, including also the sliding doors with slim frames etc. we however haven't yet commissioned an architect and that is something we're looking to start next week. I don't suppose you'd mind sending me over a few of the same details, but also details of the architect you used (if you'd recommend them?) Any help and advice would be massively appreciated.
  8. Errol has recently finished sanding the floors in 4 bedrooms, hallway and downstairs reception room- a big job. I got his details from the above post and thank the poster for providing a recommendation for a truly great floor sander. Errol did an amazing job and my floors look perfect. He and Richard worked harder than any other tradesmen that we have used in any our past 3 renovations- as an e.g. the night before he started he was working until 2am on a Sunday on another job to ensure he started on time as discussed. The finish of the work is excellent and we couldn?t be happier with how the floors look. Everyone that has come round since they were done has commented on how good they look and even our builder was so impressed that he immediately got him to quote and used him on another one of his projects- the quality of the finish obviously sells itself! To top it off- Errol is also a really nice guy and if you need your floors sanded then I would whole heartedly recommend getting him round to quote.
  9. After finding his details on here, Billy and his brother have recently finished a complete re-plumb of my heating system including the installation of a new unvented cylinder and boiler in the loft. They worked very hard, including a number of hot (and no doubt unpleasant) days working in the loft during hot weather to get it done pretty much in a week -which was quick given the size of the job. I can completely agree with the comments above- Billy was excellent. He was great at communication, providing ideas and suggesting ways of doing things/ options that were cheaper at the beginning and also throughout the project giving updates etc. He was nice to have around, took care of the house and was completely trustworthy. When he came to quote you could tell that he thought about what he was doing and what the work would entail and the work came in on budget apart from one small addition which he communicated early and got approval for before going ahead and was beyond his control. Billy also went over and above what we discussed by doing nice things like including a pressure gauge and ability to increase water pressure on the ground floor as well as in the loft- means that I can top up boiler pressure as and when I bleed the radiators without having to go into the loft each time- a very nice touch. Finally he recently came back to finish the job off which was hugely appreciated. Highly recommended.
  10. Unfortunately Richard has had what seems like quite a nasty accident. We had booked Richard for a very big job (whole house) and after very good communication in the run up to starting, he came round on the morning he was planned to start as promised and then went to pick up his tools. In the process he was hit by a bike and is now in a cast for at least 3 weeks. Very bad luck for him and I hope he gets better soon. Obviously this caused us problems too but we were able to find someone at short notice and a bit of delay is nothing compared to a broken leg!
  11. Hi - were in the process of a complete renovation and having been using a lot of reccomendations posted here I also wanted to add a reccomendation for quite an obscure trade myself. We're installing a new Megaflo and needed a new wider bore mains feed to replace the old lead feed. We were quoted crazy prices (>?2k) and then I found Gary at www.trenchdoctor.co.uk on the list of Thames water approved contractors. They installed a complete new mains feed across my quite long front garden (using an underground mole- so no need for complete trench) for ?550. Complete with Thames water sign off and 15 year guarantee. Great, prompt service and a fraction of the price that some people would quote- recommended if you're about to embark on a renovation or need a new mains feed.
  12. Hi Sk We've always used Mike from premier removals. Local to east dulwich and very quick and efficient. His number is 07989 747932. We've used him 4/5 times now including out most recent move to East Dulwich and his rate was pretty reasonable and in line with what others quote with a similar sized van. Tukantoo
  13. Thanks all. Jlg- peelaway is what I was thinking about- but I want someone to do it who's done it before so as to not ruin it (or at least have best chance of not damaging it). However I've called a few cornicing companies and they said they were essentially too skilled for what is a manual job. I asked a couple of painters and they said they had no experience so I'm a bit lost as to which trade would be best to do the job and also specifically whether there is someone local who can do it.
  14. Hi, we are about to redecorate our hallway in our Victorian semi. The original cornicing and ceiling rose is gunged up with a 100 years of paint and I was wondering whether anyone knows of someone with the experience to be able to strip the paint off ready for decoration? It's a relatively small area of cornicing so wouldn't be a big job.
  15. I've been following this thread for that same reason too. It would be great to know they also fitted out the extension or did you get another firm for that? Also did they give you a 10 year insurance backed guarantee? I guess that's one of the benefits of going with a larger firm like plusrooms.
