Consultation for the Charter School East Dulwich

Impressed with the website and good to see it is up and running-makes it seem all so real now!

We are lucky that another school is opening in the area for 120 children to attend.

I have made my application for my daughter and look forward to the open day :)

Can I ask where it states the intake will only be 120, I have looked at the new website and couldn't find anything.

Really hope that's not the case!

The Charter ED website states that the reason for the 120 intake in the 'first year/s' is due to space available at the temporary site, nothing to do with Harris' challenge... Charter ED won't be the educational saviour for everyone in east dulwich and given many kids choose to go/will choose to go to Harris schools, the constant vilification of Harris is at best disheartening, not to mention really boring.

Had nothing to do with Harris, fortunately. Was more to do with what could fit on a temporary site. If

Harris had their way, the school would not have opened till 2018.

I am sure the school would be delighted to get in contact with you if you know where an 8 form secondary school could be plonked for a year or two...

Capacity still exists within the system, so it shouldn't be as stressful as you make out, but yes, less people than originally planned with get a Charter education.

kirstymac ,I do keep highlighting Harris issues which I feel are negative . I'm dismayed by the power and influence they wield - I'm sure many have positive experiences of Harris and their clout but I have none ,quite the opposite .

I can understand why you find it boring - apologies . It's just that I'm continually shocked and concerned that our education system is now so fragemented and that childrens' futures are are so affected by large organisations with business backgrounds who seem to have competition as their main motive .

I found the Harris statement " challenge any decisions to proceed with all the means available to us" . truly chilling .It's of immense importance to me and I've written to local MP's about it .

We're all different - what you find boring I feel strongly about . It's a forum ,we're all free to express our opinions - including the one that my posts are boring -) .

Harris doesn't suit everyone, and, like the council before them, should be subject to the same level of scrutiny that any organisation running schools has. It's equally depressing to read people who say that criticising them is 'boring'.

I've never suggested that any organisation responsible for the running of schools should be exempt from scrutiny, my point was really that many local kids go to Harris schools (some not by choice) and it must be pretty disheartening to hear your school critisized time and time again.

BTW, I don't think your posts are boring ITATM...

I think you do schoolchildren a disservice if you feel that they have unquestioning acceptance and a blind loyalty that if " threatened " by putting the institution they are passing through into a wider context would shatter their world.

They have no choice in the current education system but they're not stupid or unthinking . I'm sure that they can manage to simultaneously appreciate the immense hard work put in by teachers ( and pupils ) and wonder about the power behind the throne ,the politics of it all .

I personally don't want to encourage the idea in young minds that their school is better than another school without there being some consideration of how " better " is defined and achieved .

Anyway, I'm sure folk are bored with this exchange - back to the important information on how to apply for the 120 Charter places....

I could be equally shocked by misintepretation of my remarks about the Harris Federation and the wider politics of education as criticism of individual schools .

I don't think our exchange is boring ( that word again ) nor distracting from information about how to apply for Charter 2 ,which I think has been clarified ,but we can agree to misunderstand eachother and let this exchange rest .
