Drill advice...please help!!

Our house seems to be made of some kind of impenetrable stone and trying to do basic diy is near impossible with our current drill. Can anyone recommend a powerful drill suitable for an amateur so we can finally get these shelves and blinds up!

Forgive me for asking the obvious but have you got the option to switch between drill and hammer on your drill? Is it possible you're just using the drill option? There can't be many homes locally that are not built of bricks or blockwork which the hammer function should cope with.

You might be hitting a Lintel above the window. It's made of very hard concrete withe metal reinforcement running through. But it stops the house collapsing into the window void

The drill does have the 2 options but to be honest I think it's just a rubbish drill( I inherited it from my grandpops).

I definitely think its time for a new one I just don't have a clue what to get especially as I want a powerful one. Sending me into b&q to buy a drill I'd probably give up and walk out with some wallpaper and paint.

If you are struggling as you described you might benefit from an sds drill rather than a particular brand. They are the best drill you can get for masonry. Use a quality drill bit and they will go through anything
