Have you ever conducted any form of user survey?

Age / gender / occupation / income bracket / education / postcode (SE22 / SE15 / elsewhere)/ newspapers read / profession and / or employment / membership of political parties / sports played / own - rented home / + + + etc etc

It would be interesting if sufficient were to complete the survey - would presumably, if suitably anonymised, be of interest of potential advertisers and would indicate how "mainstream" or otherwise the opinions of the forum majority are.

I don't mind creating the survey - it'd only take me ten minutes and it would just need to go on a sticky thread for a month or so. It can be anonymous and only allow one entry per computer.

You'd need an incentive usually - say dinner for two at a local restaurant?

If admin wants to do it and someone like the Mag would put up a steak dinner, then just give me the nod.

Why? Many people claim to represent EDF views. I'd be interested to understand what the demographic comprises. I'm not seeking to know your own age / gender / newspaper habits but to know the composite picture is helpful.

Wouldn't cover the thousands of lurkers who read and may be influenced by, but don't add to, the forum input.

And then what would we do with the information?

What purpose would be served and how would anything change?

Probably we'd just raise our eyebrows, go, "Oh that's interesting", and continue as we are/ aspire to be!

PR - if the "profile" reveals that 90% of users are teetotal vegetarians then I'll understand, and discount accordingly, any lack of response to my my proposal of a beer & bacon butty party.

Much much earlier in the life of this forum I suggested it was just a little right on / guardianista / anti private sector in its outlook. An interesting debate ensued and I would find it amusing, but not necessarily particularly useful, to understand the profile of users.
