Good post - by your "field" is it your job? And is

this book

considered any good? I enjoyed it anyway

As to the 20mph zone - is teh speed limit the problem or the inability to enforce it?

Just reading back through the thread, someone has stated that many accidents are not caused by speed. This is one of those misconceptions that have arisen about speed cameras. Yes, a lot of accidents are not caused by speed but the severity of the accident is directly proportional to the speed of a vehicle. Go and drive at 30mph into a post and then go drive at 70mph in to a post and see how you fair. With the cost of a fatal collision to society running at around ?1.5M whereas a slight injury collision costing on average ?20,000 you can see why the government is acting to reduce the severity of collisions and the easiest way to do this is by reducing speed.

Hi and thanks. Yes, I'm a civil engineer, I am doing a lot of work in road safety at the moment.

Thanks for the link I will take a look at that book as I haven't read it.

The police cannot currently enforce a 20mph limit, so don't expect them to be stood there with a radar gun issuing fines.

A bit more interesting stuff than me at the mo then! I need to get back to some real heavy engineering

    • You can get a card at the till, though, to get the discount. You don't have to carry it with you (or load it onto your phone), you can just get a different card each time. Not sure what happens if they notice 🤣
    • Yes..that may be the case but membership STARTING at £115 a month is still unafforable for many. Council gyms also have a large range of equipment and I had a  PT at Dulwich leisure centre when I was in Full Time employment who was incredible and even kept in contact during lockdown giving me a program I could do at home and checking in weekly at no charge or personal gain for herself. I dont doubt that Fit For may be a good gym (Its been in situ long enough so must be doing something right) However the cost of membership means it is affordable for the few not the many. If I could afford that kind of fee I would rather get a train to Canary Wharf and go to Virgin active where theres a pool and incredible classes and facilities
