I'd just like to say that there's a worrying trend on this website, by a few people who seem to think its their exclusive domain to shout others opinions down, giving others short-shrift and hardly adding any wise thoughts or experiences to any debate on here.

I myself seem to have been targeted (and a few others) by a small minority of small-minded, 'peep-behind-the-keyboard' types. Sometimes i wonder what they do all day (and night) when they try to pick apart someones opinion.

Is'nt that what this site is for? to express one's opinion and not be castigated or ridiculed if someone thinks otherwise.

An example being... I'm quite new to this part of town and yet to know all the bus numbers and streets, so accidentally posting a message about and incident i was involved in, adding the wrong bus number, seemed to have been a mortal sin to those few! and does anyone really care what time a posting is uploded onto the site...no! lol!. Its a shame as many others i noticed being bullied and intimidated on here seem to think the same of those few who disrupt and bully others.

In fact, my way around that is just not to acknowledge any postings by those few (and we all know who they are....), that seems to really agrravates them into more serial aggressiveness, which i find quite petty and puerile and i actually end up laughing at them thinking the sad, empty lives they must lead!.

Also i think the (weak?) Administrator must take a much tougher stance and nip this bullying and insulting of others in the bud, otherwise people will just not longer log on and the site will become a shadow of itself in the future.

I enjoy participating in discussions on this site and also like to share with others (in a non-aggressive/open/friendly way) my own thoughts and experiences living in this community and surroundings, so lets keep it that way!.

Has anyone got any opinions or experienced similar on this subject?

Absolutely PGL.

I've noticed a similar trend of people on this site with paper-thin skin 'giving others short-shrift and hardly adding any wise thoughts or experiences to any debate on here'.

I've noticed that if someone disagrees with them instead of discussing their position they make a complaint and 'seem to think its their exclusive domain to shout others opinions down'.

Teasing them 'seems to really agrravates them into more serial aggressiveness, which i find quite petty and puerile and i actually end up laughing at them thinking the sad, empty lives they must lead!. '

I wonder if they'll even find this post agressive, and note the irony that if they do, they'd be thoroughly hoist by their own petard? ;-)

It is the first time I have heard of BIG BROTHER admin being weak, I do not feel he/she is weak at all and jumps in almost too readily if you are not very careful just because the law of the land does not want mouthy individuals sticking the boot into this perfectly balanced welfare state.

If you stick your neck out on this forum which is full of erudite scribes you can sometimes unwittingly become a 'target'.

Hardly surprising as many of the users started posting out of indignation of other posters statements.

If you don't like the heat, stay out of the kitchen Poppylucky.

I enjoy participating in discussions on this site

Where? All I see is the odd rambling moan posted in the early hours of the morning, which then prompts pages of discussion which you rarely, if ever, get involved in.

Excuse me if my comment is seen by any as bullying or intimidation BTW.

As for the soft soft tap of the cyber intimidation, i sort of agree Ms Lucky but just let the Admin know, it does a great job under what must be some fairly dynamic circumstances.

Ms Lucky some people unfortunately lack social skills in life and online, just ignore them and that'll get on their goat even more. i do.

And *Bob* please stop, you're giving me so much jokes that i can't even type striaght... i actually laughed out loud

Right there *Bob*, I never ever do under any circumstances. None whatsover. Nosiree Jack.

Unless it's an opportunity to bully, intimidate and patronise (with a 'z' my dear, how interesting) PoppyGoLucky.

But nothing much happening in the way of bullying and intimidation, so I'll slope off back to the Longe.

Make sure you lock up when you leave.

    • This week's edition of The Briefing Room I found really useful and impressively informative on the training aspect.  David Aaronovitch has come a long way since his University Challenge day. 😉  It's available to hear online or download as mp3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002n7wv In a few days time resident doctors -who used to be known as junior doctors - were meant to be going on strike. This would be the 14th strike by the doctors’ union since March 2023. The ostensible reason was pay but now the dispute may be over without more increases to salary levels. The Government has instead made an offer to do something about the other big issue for early career doctors - working conditions and specialist training places. David Aaronovitch and guests discuss what's going on and ask what the problem is with the way we in Britain train our doctors? Guests: Hugh Pym, BBC Health Editor Sir Andrew Goddard, Consultant Gastroenterologist Professor Martin McKee, Professor of European Public Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Mark Dayan, Policy Analyst, Nuffield Trust. Presenter: David Aaronovitch Producers: Caroline Bayley, Kirsteen Knight, Cordelia Hemming Production Co-ordinator: Maria Ogundele Sound Engineers: Michael Regaard, Gareth Jones Editor: Richard Vadon
