So what toys did you covet as a child and/or do you still covet as an adult?

Also what games/activities did you do as a child that were exclusively female?

As for as dolls go, the first is of course Action Man.

My sadness was that I only had the one and not a squad of some sort.

I wanted to line them up, stand in front of them and utter the phrase "At ease men, smoke 'em if you got 'em"

I wish I had the courage to ask for a Barbie, as she would have been Action Man's (or Lance Dangerfield as he was known by his intimates), somewhat slutty girlfriend.

'Two Balls', the throwing/juggling games with rhymes/chants attached. Never see a BOY doing those.

My favourite rhyme was

'PK penny a packet

First you lick it

Then you crack it

Then you stick it to your jacket (and at this point the two baller would have to strike her chest with the flat of her hand)

PK penny a packet'

There was also a fad at one point for a tennis ball to be inserted into the toe end of the leg of a discarded stocking or pantyhos leg.

The girl would stand with her back to a wall swinging/bouncing the ball behind her, sometimes with chants, but not always.

The main point was the speed and skill involved. The more gifted would use two.

So ladies, what did you do?

    • that's exactly what happened - Brickhouse were forced to close due to rent hike and then Gail's didn't move in until covid restrictions lifted and normality resumed. Gail's would have opened much sooner as they were lined up and able to offer the landlord much higher rents. Brickhouse was a local favourite
