Hello all

The ABS system on my 2004 Golf started playing up over the weekend. Warning light has come on in the dashboard. A browse online has indicated that it may be a common VW fault with the MkV Golfs. Just wondering if anyone local has encountered anyting similar? And also whether any kind soul has a VAG-COM (or similar) diagnostic tool they could lend me for an hour or so.

Thanks

I have a Mark V Golf, and the dashboard lights up more than an overdecorated Christmas tree. The entire electrical system seems terribly fragile. Hawley, if I were you, I'd get a friendly car mechanic to give the brakes a quick once-over and reset the dashboard light. And then read the other thread about buying a new or secondhand car...

Sounds like the same problem as my Touran, ABS unit failed twice. First time was replaced under warranty but recently I took it to O'Neill Motors near the Old Kent Road who fixed rather than replaced it. Good service and not too pricey.

I drove with the warning light on for about a year BTW!

    • Another recommendation for Adam on the Dartmouth Road. Have been going there for years. I will never go anywhere else (unless I move home to somewhere far away!) No faff, very reasonal price and nice atmosphere 👍
    • Thanks so much I’ll try that too… might still try getting hold of an air purifier as well if at all possible - want to try cover all bases!
    • The 185 is often the same. But that's why buses sometimes (and annoyingly) stop to "regulate the service". To be fair, it's often due to traffic conditions. If there is not much traffic, the one behind catches up with the one in front.
    • I imagine this is because of the average  additional time involved, due to the styles. You could have asked the reason? I will ask, next time I'm in there.  Many salons have this differential pricing.
