From this week's Time Out (Michael Hodges' Slice Of Life)

"...On that memorable 1978 day, Bon Scott provided the lead vocals. Less than two years later, my school had succeeded in expelling me and Scott was dead. The found the body on a February morning in 1980 outside 67 Overhill Road, a nondescript building just off the South Circular. After a night of presumably catastrophic drinking in the Music Machine nightclub, Scott took the highway to hell (East Dulwich), for the last time, choking on his own vomit in a Renault 5. Is there a less dignified way to go than choking to death in a Renault 5 in East Dulwich?

Choking to death in a Renault 5 in West Dulwich I suppose.

East Dulwich resident Robert Boswell feels so strongly about Scott's demise in SE22 that he is campaigning to have a blue plaque erected outside 67 Overhill Road. 'Bon brought so much pleasure to so many people,' he tells me. 'Surely the death site of such a titan of Rock should be recognised? In Australia Bon's gravesite is recognised as a heritage site.'

No doubt it is, though the country is a little short of cultural highlights. Nonetheless, those of you who agree should email [email protected]..."

I think that would be a great gesture to place a plaque in memory of Bon, So what did you get expelled from school for David?. I shall email the address you have added, I remember when the campaign for Hendrix was being implemented because Handel lived at 25 Brook Street a plaque was installed, it was highlighted that Hendrix lived at number 23 and that a plaque should be mounted to commemorate the great mans life and after a similar campaign and rightly so it was commissioned.

Blue Plaques are used to commemorate someone of historical importance who lived or died in a property, did he actually live at that property when he died?; then there's the question of his 'historical importance', hardly in the same league as Hendrix...

Blue Plaques

Is there a less dignified way to go than choking to death in a Renault 5 in East Dulwich?

Choking to death in a Renault 5 in West Dulwich I suppose. Yes choking to death in Camberwell, probably would have turned into a murder hunt, with all these criminals lurking.

Bon Scott was absolutely fantastic, [i used to have a Bon Scott patch on the back of my teenage denim jacket!?!]. AC/DC were my favourite band growing up and they have never reproduced the same standard of material since his death (imo).

Highway to Hell is one of the best ever rock albums.

    • Perhaps Gooseygreeny was not familiar with the wildlife before Gala was imposed on the park, since when its value to wildlife has deteriorated. The Park had never been disturbed before, as the council had respected it as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation, so only the Common was licensed by them as a site for events. The first time Gala held their event, there was a tree with woodpeckers nesting in it right in the middle of the main field they used and thrushes, blackbirds and great tits nesting within the shrubs and trees immediately surrounding the field. The woodpeckers were thriving on ants from the anthills in the grass. To those of us who used to enjoy watching the wildlife, it was very obviously a Site of Importance for a variety of birds. Despite being accessed by the public and their dogs, it had been relatively undisturbed,  which was one of the main reasons why it was so special and why I have been opposed to the Gala festival being held during the bird nesting season.
    • So dangerous!    Can you be more specific about the road this was in and when you report it?  Maybe there’s some CCTV footage available
    • Hi - I’m looking for bean bags, cushions, toys and games for our play therapist who works weekly with some of our children. Any donations like board games, cuddly toys, dolls houses, action figures, dolls, puppets, easel etc would be very welcome. For Rushey Green Primary School
    • Disgusted by the people letting off fireworks so close to the petrol station by goose green!  Putting everyone else in serious danger! You'd think it was common sense to not have massive sparks so close to petrol. It is antisocial behaviour and I will call the police on individuals that do this for everyone's safety (including their own).
