Boo :( It's very sad -- I was due to fly out to Cancun on Wed for a three-day conference and a little holiday (haven't had one of those for a while) and now the conference has been cancelled and I'm stuck in London instead of seeing a place that I've never been to before :( I wish I hadn't poured over those photos of Cancun on the Internet now :( I was already sitting on that beach in my mind :( Still, I guess being in rainy London beats contracting pig flu and bringing it back to the UK :(

Yes, a bit of bad timing, but better safe than sorry. I was going to PM you a recent article saying that swine flu was spreading and although it hasn't hit the state Cancun is in, you'd probably be flying direct to Mexico City (before switching planes) where it was a problem.

Mexico will always be there and something now to look forward to!

Best,

...Yes, I think you are spot on Candj

It's a bit of a shame, but better not to risk spreading the virus further.

I heard on the news this morning that a honeymooning couple from the UK who went to Cancun contracted the flu --

I just hope my friends and colleagues who already went are safe and sound and get back ok.

..To update you, it seems lucky for me that I booked a charter flight with Thompson, who have cancelled flights to Cancun and are reimbursing customers. My colleagues in Cancun are not too worried, but are staying away from busy areas until they can get home. Mmmmm, I always thought the chances of me going to a Caribbean destination for a week was as likely as flying pigs *boom boom*

    • Thank you for your explanation, which makes complete sense. Sadly I'm guessing that most of those who post on here, including me, are not familiar with the  holiday arrangements of the construction industry. Very sorry to have ventured an uninformed opinion 😀
    • I live right next to the Rye and literally never notice any negatives of Gala. Another week sounds lovely for the people that enjoy it.  Also I have a PhD in ecology and can confirm that the rye is providing virtually no environmental benefits. It's almost entirely grass.
    • Regardless of what the majority think, (although they never get a voice in any council matters) the council will go ahead with this regardless. Wonga!
    • How come you are always there when these things happen?! 🤣 More seriously, someone posted on here the other day that they are practices. Who knows?
