I was at a meeting in Vauxhall when 16 military helicopter flew overhead. All got a little worried about why so many were in the air, especially American colleagues. Bought back memories of 7/7 for me as helicopter gun ships flew past our windows down the Thames. They did look impressive.

JUst to be pedantic it's actually 100 years of naval aviation - the RN commissioned an airship in 1909. The Fleet Air Arm has a more chequered history, being run by the RAF during the '30's and didn't particualrly believe in naval aviation, which resulted the Fleet Air Arm entering the Second World War with aircraft (Swordfish Bi-planes) that were closer to First World War aircraft than modern fighting aircraft - see attachment.

All the Armed Forces are under threat of cuts in spending - despite reduced funding over last 12 years and increased responsibilities. The RAF are wanting to protect their land based Typhoon programmes, while the Royal Navy wants to protect its new aircraft carriers.

While a worthwhile anniversary to celebrate the 100 years of naval aviation is also a subtle (?) RN dig at the RAF which celebrated 90 years of existence last year.

    • Another recommendation for Niko. Great communication, top guy, and super reliable and skilled - all at a fair price. Takes a lot of care in what he does and talks you through everything.
    • Some foxes are very tame. The foxes that live near the electricity sub-station thing on the corner of Calton and Woodwarde will happily walk up to you/passed you. They are some of the best looking foxes around so clearly being well-fed - glorious coats and bushy tails but interested in humans and keen to engage/be fed rather than being scared.
    • Let’s not all get scared of the foxes now. Most likely explanation is protecting its den or association with food. We have foxes, and cats and they are no bother to each other. The fox will leave when the cats are out.
