Louisa
Peckhamplex is certainly an outlier for the London area, but that's only because we have gotten used to being ripped off in this city. The big chain cinemas all overcharge - wherever in the country they are. But many small chain cinemas of which I can think of 6 off the top of my head, alongside indepedents, actually do more deals at more competitive pricing. If you exclude the Odeon's, Cineworlds and Vue's et al you will discover that 4.99 is actually a pretty standard price in many smaller UK cinemas outside of London. Granted the overheads are probably lower and they're in cheaper areas to rent, but if they can do it, why can't these massive big chains?Louisa. cella
Non of these companies appear to pay a living wage and by not paying people this is the only way that prices are kept low. They offer a bargain Monday of ?5.50 a ticket, and are part of the meerkat 2 for 1 deal. Other offers too. http://eastgrinstead.scottcinemas.co.uk/yourcinema/pricesYes, their cinemas are in cheaper regions than London, but if they can do it, why can't the massive big chain cinemas? *Bob*
The general rule is that - quite often - the snazzier and more ample the cinema facilities, the shitter the town. Take my own home town - 10 screens of air conditioned, sugared, garish, shiny, carbonated, deep fried, fun-themed hellishness - with parking for six thousand cars. They need it - the rest of the town is like a graveyard - disturbed only by occasional fights spilling out onto the pedestrianised streets. Louisa
Such a shame foxy. It had a beautiful front. These glass cages they create nowadays all look so poor build quality. What is interesting about these smaller semi-indepedent chains is that they set their pricing depending upon location and who is running the franchise. It seems like a good move to me. Much better than a blanket 12 quid across the board. And *Bob* I think I've proved my point! Louisa. Louisa
What a load of crap *Bob*! I've just given great examples of small towns with Art Deco old fashioned style cinemas, who don't charge the earth. Want some more examples? I'll google them. If anything, London is the place that's rammed full of mega retail park cinemas. Louisa. *Bob*
So things - let me get this straight - "outside" of London are often (and let me know if I'm right on this - I plan to astound my friends and family over the weekend) "less expensive" than "inside"??!!!Well blow me down. DulwichFox
My point was Lou that since you had mentioned East Grinsted I had a look. And it is obvious that money has been spent to create a purpose built Cinema Complex. Some buildings simply cannot be saved. The interiors may well become un repairable.. or unsafe.. Houses of Parliament to cost ?7 billion to repair.. Dulwich Hospital is another example. As grand as it is, It simply is not fit for purpose as a modern day hospital. Very romantic having an outside toilet.. but I like mine in the house.. *Bob*
No more, Jeremy. This is bloody serious stuff. Now the truth is out - there's gonna be like.. like I dunno some sort of REVOLUTION here in London. Louisa has opened the eyes of The People. They will follow here, like Moses out of Egypt - down the A22 to The Promised Land (aka East Grinstead), where there and only there* can reasonably priced cinema tickets be had. *(apart from the ones for ?4.99 that can be had right here literally a short walk up the road from here but this small but relevant detail seems to have been forgotten somewhere along the way in an effort to make some meaningless point of no value whatsoever carping on and on like some sort of demented parrot) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/63292-ed-picturehouse-elitist-louisas-lounged-response/page/2/#findComment-863640 Share on other sites

Louisa
Foxy I get your point now yes. Some building cannot be saved, or indeed the will to save them just isn't there because it's too expensive and some businesses just want a quick put me up so they can open up ASAP.*Bob* how do you explain the Peckhamplex conundrum then? Inner London, cheap as chips. It's almost like going to Chelsea and buying a one bed flat for 70k. Louisa.
