there was a post here this morning, i skimmed I think its gone, warning of traffic chaos. I assumed it would be ok now down there but very much isnt 11.43am. The accident is horrific, i still feel ill from my journey to the bank.Stay away.

A presumption of mine alone is that i think whoever was riding the bike they were mangled with may have thought the lorry was

just one truck. it was 2 large containers. yet, it was turning (sure its allowed to) into that really small road by burger king /liddells, when the accident happened. Big vehicle to be going up that road.looked very fatal.

I did not see the accident. My presumption is based on the aftermath. It looked to me as though the cyclist was on the left of the lorry and collided with the first flatbed as it cut across her path when it began to turn left into Bellenden Road. The impact was close to the junction but the bike and rider were dragged a few metres along the side street before coming to rest under the rear double axel of the first flatbed.

Edited to clarify after receiving conflicting reports.

Sounds absolutely terrible, poor lady.

All too familiar I?m afraid. Female rider to the left of a goods vehicle waiting to move off at traffic lights. Both move off together, lorry turns left over ahead bound cyclist.

People question why cyclists jump traffic lights or move ahead of the traffic queue to get in front of traffic as well. The police should enforce the advance cycle stop lines at traffic signals more rigorously; these are specifically designed for cyclists to avoid this type of collision, however, drivers (especially black cab drivers) seem to think its their god given right to occupy these areas.

F---ing hell, this is awful. You have to be SO aware of what is going on around you as a cyclist. Of course I make no assumptions as to whether this poor woman was wearing an iPod or not but I see so many cyclists wearing headphones. You cannot be in your own little world listening to music when you're cycling. Although maybe this is the wrong/time place for this mini rant.

It is.

Few cyclists wear anything on their ears.

Far too many - female - cyclists get mown down - and often killed - by left-turning juggernauts.

Please show some respect.

I hope she pulls through, and makes it into full recovery.

Went pass this morning, was totally horrified by her bike which was literally right under the lorry and almost un-recognizable as a bicycle.People just standing around staring at the scene. I had to tell off a man who decided to take photos of this poor ladys bike on his mobile phone.

"you have no shame" i told him, as i turned on my heels and went home.

I feel so nervous to venture out on my bike now. I have a shiny new bike just completed my cycle training, and was ready to tackle my morning commute. bioycle accidents where women are mowed down really does make me think long and hard about biking into work on my own. I have everything i need to start my commute, but still keep putting it off.

    • It has come to this author’s attention that the world of 4+ admissions — that most enigmatic of educational rites — continues to bewilder even the most composed of parents. Fear not. For in a former life, I was not merely a humble observer, but a seasoned educator of over twenty years, and Head of Pre-Prep for a distinguished dozen. Now, with quill exchanged for touchscreen, I have taken to that most modern of salons — Instagram — to dispense guidance, answer frequently whispered questions, and illuminate the shadowy corners of school selection with clarity and calm. • Perhaps Gooseygreeny was not familiar with the wildlife before Gala was imposed on the park, since when its value to wildlife has deteriorated. The Park had never been disturbed before, as the council had respected it as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation, so only the Common was licensed by them as a site for events. The first time Gala held their event, there was a tree with woodpeckers nesting in it right in the middle of the main field they used and thrushes, blackbirds and great tits nesting within the shrubs and trees immediately surrounding the field. The woodpeckers were thriving on ants from the anthills in the grass. To those of us who used to enjoy watching the wildlife, it was very obviously a Site of Importance for a variety of birds. Despite being accessed by the public and their dogs, it had been relatively undisturbed,  which was one of the main reasons why it was so special and why I have been opposed to the Gala festival being held during the bird nesting season.
