Agree with Gimme (although calling Mangia dreadful is a bit harsh as interior and location is reflected in the price you pay), there is still room for an Italian that can 'up the game'.

In particular if the restaurant and/or cafe can offer coffee as good as 'Caff? Vergnano 1882' - next to royal festival hall and cakes as 'Princi' on Wardour Street. Have also not tried the italian on Melbourne Grove but 'Franca Manca' in Brixton is without doubt the benchmark for Pizza in south east London (well for the pizza rather than iterior and opening times).

I don't know if anyone has ever been or knows Finsbury Park, but I used to live up there and there was a fantastic place called Pappagone on Stroud Green Road. Real Italians running the place, Italian families dining, loud and bustly, informal, reasonably priced, not just generic pizza/pasta but great meat and fish dishes too, plus fabulous ice cream. Also were always open, for example for coffee in the mornings. It is always absolutely packed and has a real buzz about it. Can't think of anywhere similar around here.

I don't mind Locale, but think it is really overpriced, especially the wine!

I live near Si Magia but for some reason I just don't fancy it.Likewise Locale doesn't really grab me.

There used to be a fantastic restaurant called Slice on the Northcote Rd. It was cheap. You could choose square slices of quality pizza from the front counter and get a side salad and a bottle of Italian plonk or ice cold Moretti beer, good coffee etc. It was such a good place and always had a buzzy atmosphere. I think something along these lines could work in ED.

i've eaten at locale a couple of times now and have always been a bit disappointed with the food. the pizzas are 'wet' and the meat dishes a bit formulaic. I also think it's pricy for what it is. if it is the sister/brother to locatelli then lets have them instead as the loco in blackheath is great, excellent food and excellent wine.

    • A bit of a long shot but I'm on the lookout for a portable pop-up counter or podium.   The kind you often see on a high street, used by charities or utility companies to advertise their wares.   I've included a photo to give you the idea. I'm a peckham-based artist and am looking for one for a free (and non-profit) community art project.  It can be in any workable condition and can already have signage on it as we will remove and redecorate ourselves.    Thanks in advance, Linzie
    • No I absolutely did not - that much is clear. Have you read the latest stories about Unite, Len and the hotel in Birmingham? The UK electorate were smart enough to reject a far-left party in 2019, let's hope they are smart enough to reject a far-right party at the next election too. If not we are all doomed.
    • I would also like to add my recommendation for James.  I had taken four names of electricians from the forum - in the order I had read the reviews.  First three no response - even days later. I phoned James this morning. He answered, gave me a time, stuck to it, messaged again 15 mins before arrival.  He fixed my problem on the spot.  Sensible charge out fee. Perfect service.
    • Most recent polls for the next election suggest it will be a hung parliament, with Reform the largest party by a fair margin. But that is predicated on Reform finding around 300 candidates who are actually electable. Given the number of Reform council candidates who have had to drop out prior to or after the local elections, does that seem likely? Social media is pretty unforgiving when it comes to finding skeletons in cupboards; a retweet or a like seems enough to scupper political ambitions. A few may defect from other parties, but do you think the electorate would really vote for so many brand new MPs from a newish party?  I'm not so sure.
