Tony.London Suburbs
Anthony Wedgewood-Benn, was born a fully-fledged aristocrat, the son of Viscount Stansgate. Sir John Benn was a Baronet before that.He was described as an "Old Testament prophet" who "immatures with age" by Harold Wilson, while he was part of his 1964-70 Government. He was a great supporter of that other "mild-mannered democratic socialist, champion of just, working-class causes", namely,Arthur Scargill, who tried to bring down The Country, at the time...:) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6593-water-torture/page/6/#findComment-212070 Share on other sites
gallinello
I will contact him on this one; his responses, unlike yours, TLS, are normally clear, concise and rational.I couldn't possibly respond to this alleged "wrecking" and destruction of working class communities through station closures. It's obviously something that had a deep effect on you and your elephantine memory, leading to hateful thoughts and murderous images of pain and torture for the alleged perpetrator.Therapy time for you, me ol' TLS!The sun is shining, have a nice day. rgutsell
Hi allI am replying to the views expressed about drug users and dealers by some on this thread; i e that they are so heinous that they deserve to be water boarded, or Police should be alowed to treat them violently.I have actually worked in drug and alochol rehabilition for 16 years, and I have still to meet an evil person. I have, however, met many people who have done terrible things, to themselves as well as others. Above all, everyone I have met has been someone trying to do their best, albeit badly.Be sure of this; Dulwich has many dealers and users. There is a view that Cannabis is not really "drugs" and that buying and selling on, (at for example a festival) is harmless. (and therefore OK, which it is not!) One of the more interesting and humorus things I have often come across, is that in the community of dealers and users, there is a lot of snobbery; cannabis users at festivals won't see themselves as problem users, but see heroin users as the pits. Crack users, look down on heroin users. Everyone looks down on glue sniffers, and so on. Generalisations I know, and questionable, but very common.Drug and alcohol misuse is endemic at all levels in our society; no one deserves to be judged as evil, and no one deserves to be tortured. I don't know, though.Only last week a work colleague of my friend was in Court after her "evil" heroin addict Partner disappearred with a Woman he met at Re-hab(!). He used to steal all the kids "toy" money, while she did 3 jobs to keep them afloat. This time she flipped and put her nails deep into his face when she found him with her. Thats after she battered her and put her fingers in his nose and spread his nose as far across his face as much as she could. Thanks to our Legal System, it was only her 2nd recent offence ( she ran over a Guy who she had a disagreement with and then ran over him again, in case she missed any of his bits the first time) and was fined......?125..lolShe was driven to this by her heroin-addicted Partner though... It was not his decision to renege on the manifesto promise to halt the line closures - he was onlt a junior minister after all - and the whole Beeching thing had started several years previously. And using a quote by Harold Wilson, of all people, against him strikes me as being fairly counter-productive.
