I've been thinking of playing squash - need to get some exercise and I used to play a bit at school. It seems like my two options locally are the Dulwich Squash Club or Hamlets Health Club. Was just wondering if anyone knew of any other courts nearby, or could offer any opinions on either club.

Am expecting to be really quite rubbish at it to begin with, so lessons would be a plus.

I play at Hamlets which has three courts and it's pretty good.

Pros

1. Never had a problem getting a court, even booking on the day for a (usually busy) 7-8pm slot

2. Pretty cheap - 10quid for non members 7 for members - 3.50 each isn't bad

3. Locality

4. The private lessons are supposed to be quite good - i think it's 20 bucks for an hour one on one...worth checking though

Cons

1. The court surfaces are fine, but the walls are a little worse for wear - could use a re-plaster

2. The bookings arent regulated too well, and often you have to ask people to vacate as they have run into your time - on the whole though, everyone is usually happy to leave the court when their time is up (probably because they are exhausted)

all in all it's a pleasant, hassle free experience.

Can't speak for the Dulwich Squash Club though.

Hope this helps

Cheers

    • Called Tessa Jowell GP Surgery today after failing to get two repeat prescriptions from the pharmacy.  When I asked the pharmacy, I was told that they had been requested but not sent by the surgery.  After speaking to the surgery I was told that those two items were no longer on my repeat prescriptions.  I was told I would need a prescription review. Earliest date would be the 22 September.  That is utterly ridiculous.  Surely someone from the surgery should have contacted me to tell me this after requesting the repeat prescriptions two weeks ago.    Also, apparently, there is no point sending an email regarding prescriptions as they are not actioned nor replied to as I have discovered.
    • Erm... guessing it's like any service... so you can receive/be part of something relevant to you in the area where you happen to reside. You don't have to sign up but you might miss out on an excellent Tesco offer or two. 🤷‍♀️

    • happy to buy, but would rather not buy a new one as only need it for a very short time (Hallowe'en). Please let me know if you have one in your cupboard that you don't use.
