The Ebony Horse Club has existed for ten years in Brixton and it provides access to top quality horse riding instruction and mentoring for young people aged eight to seventeen years old. The club targets young people in danger of social exclusion, whether through school exclusion, home circumstances, health, or poverty.

The club is now planning a major expansion to build a top class horse riding facility at Loughborough Junction.

The Ebony Horse Club is Britain's biggest provider of access to horse riding for disadvantaged young people & ethnic minorities and the kids trained by the club learn important skills in working co-operatively together.

The club provides other experiences for young people and I had fun watching the youngsters canoeing around the London Regatta Centre during the summer holidays. www.ebonyhorseclub.org.uk

They have been shortlisted for the London Legacy Prize for the Beyond Sport Conference and urgently need your votes to win this prize which is worth ?20,000 a year for three years please pass through your e-mail lists. Please act immediately voting ends on Friday 26th June

I noticed that as well. I just hope that the site actually works and registers even one vote per IP address.

Andystar - in answer to your question, no, it's not.

Thanks again - and please vote those of you who haven't done so yet.

I see Tessa Jowell's mentioned it in her newsletter:

"4. Finally, can I ask you to support a fantastic local group - the Ebony Horse Club - who are up for a well deserved award - but who need your vote to win.

Please take a couple of seconds to follow this link: http://www.beyondsport.org/the-awards/london-legacy/shortlist.php and vote for the Ebony Horse Club under the 'London Legacy Award' section2"

Thanks to everyone who voted for the Ebony Horse Club. They won the Beyond Sport London Legacy award worth ?60,000 over three years last night in a ceremony at City Hall.

It is one of the most inspiring and effective local organisations I have ever worked with in transforming the lives of hundreds of young people growing up in really tough circumstances.

Here's a message from the founder of Ebony, Ros Spearing, to everyone who voted for them:

Thank you for voting for us!

Last night Ebony Horse club won The Beyond Sport London Legacy Prize.

Please see Evening Standard Newspaper today and please pass this on to all those who voted for us.

    • Hello, Does this lovely little panther have a name? & Is he neutered & microchipped?
    • Well I don’t approve for a shop doing the same food to open so near - just wrong in my opinion. Why not go to the village, Peckham - foot fall would be great in Peckham and certainly more multi  cultural than ED. Village has money but doubt foot fall would be as good as ED.  At least they could have gone to the stretch leading up to Peckham Rye or why not bottom of Barry Road?? Or even North Cross Road I for one, on principal won’t be going in.
    • Heh yeah haven't even bothered to remove the emdash. The OP is AI slop as well.
    • The street directory is on Ancestry and you'll need a subscription to access.  It's reasonably easy to navigate though you have to find the page you're looking for by a combination of trial and error/guesswork.  https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageviewer/collections/61265/images/47056_263021009499_1592-00159?usePUB=true&_phsrc=Soz1793 There is though also a general search page for London directories where the street name can be entered in the keyword field and results will take you to the specific pages. https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/61265/
