The Minkey
Does Southwark collect fridges/freezers as part of bulky waste collection? Hard to tell from their website. ed_pete
Dunno but if it works you could donate to the British Heart Foundation on Old Kent Road - they will collect. Mustard
They collected a small fridge from me about 5 years ago. Why not phone them to double check. The Minkey
The fridge's thermosat has gone and the freezer sounds like a animal in distress. Besides which, even if new parts could be obtained, the way they were installed, or rather the way the flooring was installed butting up tight in front of their feet means I may have to cut the legs down to get them out from under the counter :-( As for calling Southwark, brilliant idea. Lol, I've got Saturday on the brain. intexasatthe moment
Southwark's free bulky collection is fantastic and yes they take freezers ,fridges etc .You can arrange on line http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200084/recycling_and_waste/1667/bulky_waste_collection Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/66801-does-southwark-collect-fridgesfreezers-as-part-of-bulky-waste-collection/#findComment-875102 Share on other sites
The Minkey
Thanks, I did check, it really is a fantastic service. Something like 14 items a month! When I lived in Lambeth, many moons ago admittedly, it was 8 items per year and I thought that was great. Compare that to where my folks live in Wales where they have to pay to have something like a fridge collected. The one area Southwark seems to neglect is collection of small recyclable items like kettles, phones etc. The advice is always to take them down to the depot but if you aren't very mobile, that can be problematic. I'm sure a lot of that type of stuff must end up in landfill. I may try booking a few such items with the collection of the fridge and freezer.. ruffers
In my experience leaving small electrical things outside by the pavement results in them being taken away within a couple of hours. The Minkey
Yes, it's a great way to recycle and I always do that for things that still work. The things still knocking around my house are the things that don't. ruffers
Try it with broken things, they'll go just as quick! Vik
Love Southwark's bulk refuse service, though we put a washing machine and dryer out a few weeks back and they were gone before Southwark got a chance, one man's trash and all that. The Minkey
Haha, I'm sure they do but when whoever picks it up finds out it doesn't work, they'll bin it most likely. In which case I might as well cut out the middleman and bin it myself, but that's missing the point, lol.. There was a thread on it fairly recently. It's irrelevant whether the stuff works or not because they just want it for the value of the metal.
